Perhaps obvious to some but, a side benefit to using BD-RB to compress and burn BluRay discs to DVD-9s is that the lower bitrates, with no visible difference, make it possible for me to play these high quality backups, at full speed, for some of the grandkids on some of their "antiquated" but fully functional machines that would otherwise gag on an actual BluRay disc - for example, a 2.16GHz Athlon 3000+ with a 32MB videocard!

Once again, kudos to "jdobbs" ;>}

I have already found that out. I cannot play a BD off the HDD or directly from the disc due to not enough spec. I can however, manipulate the files and can run a movie only version of the hdd. that uses mpeg2 and VC-1 without any problems. With AVC/H264 it depends on the bitrate. It works if it not too high. I put the bitrate down to up to BD-9 size and it works for H264 everytime. I can't play BD-9 on my BD player without stuttering though. As soon as I started with BD-5's they play as well.

If I try to play a BD ISO or a actual BD disc the computer restarts !!

Athlon XP 3700 (2.2ghz)
2GB RAM
Onboard graphics.

Next time I do a pc build it will be a quad core straight away.

If you want to go specifically for this purpose, jdobbs could add a CAVLC option to BD-rebuilder.
