View Full Version : Need help streamlining the ripping / VOB merging process.

Okay, I need some help streamlining.

If I rip a DVD in DVD Decrypter in PGC mode, and have it configured to output a single VOB file, it will take care of that quite nicely, and give me text files with the chapter and PTS info.

The problem is that this process becomes quite tedious if you have a lot of PGCs (and a lot of DVDs) to process, because it has to be done one PGC at a time, and it won't work on DVDs already ripped to HDD.

Is there a good way to streamline this, so that I can automate this process - for DVDs already ripped to HDD. The text files with chapter and PTS info isn't strictly necessary, but if any suggested app can't do that, then I need a recommendation on another app that is good for reading the PTS of a VOB.

Any ideas?

Hi!...and it won't work on DVDs already ripped to HDD.Use good ol' "SmartRipper" (It CAN process DVD "packages" from your hard drive) instead...

From what little I read on SmartRipper, while it might process DVD's on hard drive, I didn't come across anything that indicated it would do everything else I needed. Also, it's an old and obsolete app, isn't it? (I know that DVD Decrypter is no longer developed as well, but SmartRipper is several years older, from what I could tell).

If there are any apps that will do what I'm looking for, and are still under development, that would be best.

Have you actually tried SmartRipper yet?

What, specifically, is it that you think DVD Decrypter can do that SmartRipper can't do?

No, I've never used SmartRipper. Your initial reply seemed to imply that the reason you were recommending it was for its ability to process DVDs already on the hard drive. Nothing was mentioned about the other capabilities I was looking for, so it wasn't clear whether or not it could handle them.

Are you saying that SmartRipper can handle the other items as well?

To reiterate:

I need an app that can process all PGCs on a DVD (stored on HDD), merging multiple VOBs into a single VOB (per PGC). Ideally, it would be able to batch handle multiple DVD's stored on HDD at one time, and ideally, it would generate text files with chapter, stream, and PTS info.

I just tried SmartRipper, and after admittedly spending only a few minutes with it, I'm not impressed.

Aside from SmartRipper generating several Exception errors every time it starts because it's expecting to find a DVD loaded somewhere (and the exception errors are prior to SmartRipper's error box stating that fact), I haven't been able to find a way to do what I need it to do.

First of all, I haven't yet found a way to select multiple PGCs to process. It only seems to be able to work on one at a time.

Second, the info text file it generates does not have anything that appears to list the PTS.

Third, while there is some chapter info within the info file, it is a form that is useless to me - as I need it to be a seperate file (preferably OGG format), so that mkvmerge can process it.

Now, I acknowledge that being new to this app, it's possible there are some things I've missed - but off the bat, I'd have to say that this is not what I am looking for.
