Guys,

I own the Marantz AV8003 receiver and the ATI HD4350. I have installed the latest display driver. After this HDMI audio device remains yellow in my hardware and is not installed properly. So I know already that I have to download something for this but I see a lot of different drivers on the net for it. Which one do I have to install?

http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/hdmiaudio-xp both these two? (I have XP with SP3)

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false which one do I need? Or do I only need the 9.1 driver from the ATI site?

1. Install this Driver from Realtek from ATI HDMI Audio Device :

ATI HDMI Audio Device R2.13
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/RedirectFTPSite.aspx?SiteID=1&DownTypeID=3&DownID=600&PFid=24&Conn=3

This Driver works perferct for all ATI HDMI Audio Devices

2. In Windows Sound Settings use the "Realtek HDMI Output" as default Sound Device. Or simply set your Player to this Sound Device
3. Then go to configure for this Device ( my Windows is German so its konfigurieren) and set the Speaker Properties to 5.1 (or 7.1 when youve a 7.1 Speaker Setup)

Thats all. Now all Audio will be decoded as PCM 5.1 (or 7.1) and the ATI HDMI Audio Device sends it uncompressed via HDMI to your Receiver.

I use the ATI HDMI Audio via HDMI with my Kenwood KRF 7300D.
works great with PCM oder HDMI Passtrough (AC3/DTS with ffdshow)

thxz for your reply!

Do you know what the difference is between the Realtek audio driver and 9.1 ATI hdmi audio driver?

I m still leaning towards the driver from ati because my card is ATI after all.......

edit:

you re talking about decoding the signal. But isn t it so that when I use my HTPC and let the HTPC decode it first and then offers the signal as 5.1 uncompressed PCM to my soundcard, that then the only thing the soundcard does is pass it through?

1. Make sure you're receiver is detected as HDMI in Catalyst Control Center.

2. I could only get surround working with the ATI driver, realtek drivers gave me stereo only.

thxz for your reply tal.aloni!

However, I m not fully there where I want and I ll tell why:

I ve installed the Realtek HDMI audio driver. I got sound but it only was 2-channel. So I removed this realtek driver and installed the ati HDMI audio driver on your advice from the link I mentioned earlier in this post. Now I do get fully PCM output 5.1 channel support that my receiver can handle!

But I ve already discovered the first problem:

When I Power OFF my receiver the ATI HD Audio Rear Output device disappears. When turning ON my receiver I can select it again (I don t even have to restart my HTPC!). How can I config my system so that the device stays for good? Is there a fix or workaround for this?

Workaround:
I'm not sure about your receiver, but my Onkyo has a "power control" mode, that pass-through HDMI signals while the receiver is in stand by. (the downside is higher power consumption than regular stand by).

alternatively, you can remove any other audio device, might help as well.

thxz for your reply. I already removed all audio deveces except the ATI Audio HDMI. My receiver does not have such a function.

All was working fine until last night. This was the first time I was going to watch a movie on my projector (this week I only tested it while watching the regular MONITOR OUT of the 4350). When watching on my projector I only get 2-channel sound now. Switching back to single display MONITOR AND turn OFF my projector AND power OFF and back ON my receiver lets the 5.1 multi channel come back and works again. Also switching to dual display OR single display with the projector does not work and only gives me 2-channel sound.
I ve checked the soundproperties in windows and it it still on '5.1' and not on 'Desktop Stereo Speakers'.

extra info: I own this card http://xi0.info/img/2242/quiet-optio...and_2242_1.jpg and I use the HDMI output of that card (not the DVI) for my projector (via my receiver) and the Monitor Out for my regular 17'' monitor.

Make sure (in the receiver setup) that the receiver does not pass-through the audio to the TV/Projector. (in the latter case, the receiver reports the audio capabilities of the TV/Projector)
