LAME question

--vbr-new
--vbr-old
--vbr-mtrh

now i know wjat vbr is and so on
but what are the differences between these modes ?
which gives better quality?
which is faster ?

In recent versions of LAME(why use anything else?) --vbr-new is just a pointer to --vbr-mtrh.

--vbr-mtrh is a faster slightly lower quality VBR mode than --vbr-old. Although on some clips --vbr-mtrh actually does better than --vbr-old, but for the most part --vbr-old will yield slightly higher quality.
