JD: Maybe dumb question but, would it be possible for BD-RB to also backup PS3 games? The reason is that in reality those discs (games) are more frequently used and so exposed to damaged than even movies (except from the ones for kids). It would be great to have the ability to backup games.
I entered into a PS3 game file structure though and I find out is a very different beast. That is why I introduce this thread saying "Maybe a dumb question".

That's very definitely out of my area of expertise...

Not until they can convince the PS3 to play 'backups' ... so no

Even with the PS2, you have to have a mod chip in order to play copies... there is no such animal for the PS3, so playing copies (backups if you prefer) of your games is pretty much out of the question.

Right, blu-ray blanks are sold for the apparently intended purpose of making HD home movies. Blu-ray movie players are expected to be able to play these home movies. Once we remove the encryption from a commercial BD, it is essentially a home movie as far as the BD player is concerned. Now Sony technically does let you play 'homemade' games on the ps3 otherwise known as homebrew. But you have to be running linux and even then you don't have full access to the gpu library. That is the difference between games and movies and always has been. It was the same way with dvd's and ps2/xbox/gamecube games. As GaPony said, you'd have to have some kind of modchip or modification to the console itself to play backup games.
