View Full Version : Encoded video too long

Hello everyone,

I'm having a problem encoding a TV show from DVD to h264 with MeGUI. The first four four seasons went off without a hitch, but season five is giving me headaches.

Here's the problem: the ripped VOB file is 23m20s long (and so is the demuxed audio). But when I run it through the AVS Script Creator and check its length in the Bitrate Calculator, MeGUI shows that it is 23m24s long.
When I go ahead and encode it the resulting video is indeed 23m24s long (and thus completely out of sync with the audio). Interestingly, the video is not stretched or anything but there are simply 4 seconds of black before the video starts. This happens with every single VOB of the 5th season.

I have no idea how to troubleshoot this, any help is appreciated. I'm happy to provide any additional information you guys may need.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Well yeah, that was my first idea too. Being the curious guy that I am, I wanted to know why the video was too long. I'd much rather remedy the problem than meddle with the symptoms.

Thanks anyway.

Sounds like a proper decryption issue. Some decryption schemes pad the beginning of vobs with what are called dummy sectors, possible resulting in your black frames. This is usually fixed by using an up-to-date ripping program. What did you use to rip this tv show?

I used DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0, which is old, I know, but it has served me well so far.
Thanks a lot for your tip, I will try another decrypter tomorrow and let you know if that fixed the issue.

try ripit4me or DVDFab HD Decrypter.

After ripping it with DVDfab everything works beautifully. Thank you very much.
