View Full Version : DVD-Rebuilder and HCenc 0.24: is it possible?

Hi jdobbs,
I'm a DVD-Rebuilder user and I'd like to know if one can use the new HCenc 0.24 beta with DVD-RB Pro latest build.

In case, what do I have to look after?
I mean, should I follow any special procedure (to set some .ini files and other thing like that) to benefit of the encoder's new features?
Can I still have both installed (of course in a different folder)?

Many thanks for your help :p
Bye,
Stefano.

You should be - just do the same renaming as you normally would (change the name of the encoder (not the gui) to HCbatch.exe and pop it in the DVDRB-Pro/Encoders/HC Encoder folder (overwriting the current HCbatch.exe - or you might like to rename that one for safety in case you want to return to it).

If there are new encoder features (i.e. new parameters), they will not be accessible from DVDRB though until a new version is released. As well, I doubt any new DVDRB version will bundle a new encoder until it gets out of beta.

EDIT: Note - be very careful if you are going to use the new chroma sampling formats.

*CHROMAFORMAT 420
*CHROMAFORMAT 422
Output can be 420 (default) or 422 color space,
for 422 color space YUY2 input is required, for 420 input can be YV12 or YUY2
IIRC, DVDRB sets up HCEnc for YV12.

Hi blutach and thanks for your reply! :)

and what I'm thinking by myself is that jdobbs is too busy to develop BD-RB at moment...may be he will stop to enhance DVD-RB

Many thanks again,
Stefano.

I actually have a version with several changes awaiting release. But I started working on the ability to suppress the CCE encode status pop-ups when it is minimized -- and put it on-hold. I need to finish that before releasing.

hi jdobbs and thanks for the information.
okay...that's a really great improvement indeed!

I hope that it'll be even possible an upgrade to the new build without the hassle to reinstall the application over again.

Bye and thanks again,
Stefano.

Can I ask - Does that include a fix for the PGCITI bug?

TIA

DVD-RB will continue to progress... but I also want to look forward. Eventually Blu-ray will replace DVD the same way DVD replaced VHS -- and I want to be ahead of the power curve.

I do agree with you mate... it's always better to develop more than an application at same time.
It's a really great job what you're doing us with both DVD-RB and BD-RB.
I personally say thanks to you for the amazing contribute that you're giving us! :thanks:

Bye,
Stefano.

I'm hoping to see the release that does suppress those CCE pop-ups someday soon. They create a nightmare when I'm multi-tasking and actively working in another window especially when I'm typing or doing photographic editing.

Hi DrinkLyeAndDie...you're 100% right, same of me.
It's not easy to manage...I hope jdobbs will find a solution some day...

Stefano

Do you mean when cce pop ups, when its starting a encode?

gizzin

Ya that would be nice.

stenews

Hi gizzin...well yes.
CCE always pop-ups when finished to encode a segment and strip out the focus form the application in foreground.

if I set up to use CCE 2.50 with EclCCE can I still use CCE 2.50 with others programs like DVD2SVCD?

jdobbs

if I set up to use CCE 2.50 with EclCCE can I still use CCE 2.50 with others programs like DVD2SVCD?Yes. ECLCCE is just a helper app that handles/passes settings through the interface that aren't directly supported in CCE 2.50. It doesn't really affect the program itself.

I should have mentioned ECLCCE to you -- I hadn't used CCE 2.50 in a while and had forgotten.

For DVD2SVCD you do not use EclCCE with CCE ver 2.50, just point to the .EXE directly.

you was right again...jdobbs, that's true and I'm sorry about that.
BTW thanks again to have replied me one more time...!:o

I very thank to you too mate.

I knew that but it's always important to read a confirmation about that

Bye and thanks to both of you :goodpost:

Will that version also support the hide feature in HC, too? I have written a wrapper for myself to use that option but it would be great if it was just build into DVD-RB.

But HC stays minimized when selected, doesn't it?

You do not get a HC Gui at all, it just stays hidden. The command in the ini file to set is SILENT, it was added some time ago in HC.

Yes, it does. I've never had any issues with HC staying minimized including the 0.24 beta.

Hi Rumbah,
...The command in the ini file to set is SILENT...
where should I add that option?
I mean, in the Rebuilder.INI or HC.INI?

Thanks,
Stefano

In the HC.ini file.

@Rumbah
I'm sorry for my late but I had my internet connection down until now!

BTW, thanks for your reply and of course I'll try to add that line to my INI file.
The only question I have is:
Every-time I change something in my set-up, before to see the result, it takes me too much time to complete a full encoding process.
I mean, how can I encode just a small part of the entire movie, so I can first evaluate what actually I did, and only when I'm happy with that I can start to encode the full movie?
How do you usually manage that?

Thanks again,
Stefano

Rumbah
5th June 2009, 01:41
Well, I just do a full encode, but I do have a fast cpu ;)

To preview I would just wait till the first part of the main movie got encoded, then abort and watch the m2v file in the temp folder.

okay...I see what you mean.

Thanks,

Bye,
Stefano

Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread but I just wanted to reply to the CCE encoder and window focus issue. I'm sure discussion of CCE being annoying has been had elsewhere but I cannot find it at this time. I finally threw in the towel on this issue and have begun using a workaround which is simple and free.

Solution:

Download the Sysinternals Suite (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062) or the Desktops (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/cc817881) utility by itself from Sysinternals (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default) (now Microsoft). Other desktop utilities might work just as well.
Extract the Desktop utility to wherever you want and run it.
Switch to another desktop (ie 2, 3 or 4) before opening DVD-RB.
Open DVD-RB and begin the re-encode process.
Switch back to Desktop 1 and go back to doing whatever else you need to do while re-encoding a DVD.

You won't see anything related to the DVD-RB process let alone the damn CCE encoder windows popping up and stealing focus. You will hear the audio notifications from DVD-RB which is great. Anyway, it's not a perfect solution but it works great and I can multi-task to my heart's content without worrying about losing window focus to the CCE encoder windows. Desktops is not the best or most fancy multi-desktop application but it's free, it's simple, and since it's a Microsoft utility it works without issue under Windows.

As always HC doesn't suffer the issue with the encoder window stealing focus but since I have CCE and prefer it I would rather use it for re-encoding my DVDs even if it's a rarity these days.
