View Full Version : double pass encoding: 1st pass with sound?

Hi all,

I just have a simple question, because it's not in the guide:

If I do double pass encoding do I need to compress the audio stream in the first pass? Would I get different results if I select "uncompressed audio" for the first pass and MP3 for the second?

No,

so long as if you choose to compress the sound and select the bitrate in the second pass, the first pass settings (as far as the audio is concered) shouldn't matter.

I have experimented with this as well.

But just for safety, I always set the same settings for first pass as I do for the second pass (except, of course, the setting box saying first or second pass).

for some reason when the xvid second pass started, there was no audio being encoded !
Fortunately I found that if you set the video codec as xvid 2pass-2nd pass you can reuse the video.stats file so no need for another pass.
Curiously audio now works ;-)
