I recently bought the fine Sony BDP S-350 Bluray SA Player.

Now i want encode some Bluray/HD Sources to AVCHD/x264,1080p or 720p.

Ive tested the standard megui x264 Profile for standalone AVCHD from Sharktooth with ~17Mbps maximum Bitrate/VBV Buffer. It plays 100% fine.

Can anybody tell me what is the maximum Bitrate for AVCHD Discs (DVD5/9) to play it on the Sony BDP S350 ?

thanks

The AVCHD specs state 18 MB\s for dvd. But you aren't really creating an AVCHD otherwise you wouldn't be able to use DTS. What TSMuxer (BD-RB, RipBot264, etc.) creates is BD format as it says in the program Blu-Ray disc.

I've read that roughly 30 mbps is the maximum rate the laser can handle spinning at 3x (max?) speed but you have to consider audio and subs too. I use 25 mbps max / 20-25 mbps vbv buffer and have yet to see a problem but I can't say I've tested it thoroughly on a Sony BDP-S350 only a few clips. From loosely following the RipBot264 thread I haven't heard of anyone else having trouble either since it changed to L4.0 profile which is 25 / 25 mbps vbv.

Ok, so i can use ~25Mbps maximum/VbV buffer when i use Level 4.0 on the Sony BDP S350?

Have you a link to the Thread ?

Would be a Option to use Level 4.0 and there shouldnt be a Quality decrease compared to Level 4.1.
But i cant imagine that a 1080p File from "DVD" can handle such high Peak Bitrates around 25 Mbps ?

Mh...ive to test it by myself when ive my Sony Bravia 40Z4500 40" FullHD 200hz back.

I made Tests with the Sony BDP S350

AVCHD H(x)264 runs perfectly fine :

1280x720 Level 4.1 HP/ max. 9 Ref Frames , up to 25Mbps VBV Bitrate/Buffer /AC 3 5.1 640Kbps
1920x1080 Level 4.1 HP/ max. 4 Ref Frames,up to 25Mbps VBV Bitrate/Buffer /AC3 5.1 640 Kbps

Works smooth from DVD-R(W) :)

Are you using b-pyramid?

NO! I dont use Bpyramid since its not 100% stable for DXVA and or Stanalones
This cmd is for 1920x1080 4 Ref Frames 10Mbit VBR, 25Mbit max /VBV Buffer

Its the Megui standalone AVCHD Profile changed to 25000 VBV Max Bitrate /Buffer, Deblocking -1 -1 and more Ref Frames (9 for 1280x720 and 4 for 1920x1080) and subme 8

Where does it state that 9 ref can be used with 1280x720? I'm not disagreeing with you I'm just looking for guidance.

BTW: I haven't had any problems with b-pyramid using MPC-HC or my standalone Panasonic BD-35. Not that it really applies to this thread, just pointing it out.

Maybe out of this thread? (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=132924)
I've read that b-pyramid counts for a ref, so max 8+b-pyramid for 720p and 3+b-pyramid for 1080p
I wonder if that's still true, would you guys be able to test?

In order to conform to Level 4.1 standards you have to use this Rules for Reference Frames/Resolution:

|-----------|---------|
|Resolution | no. ref |
|-----------|---------|
| 1280x544 | 12 |
| 1280x720 | 9 |
| 1920x800 | 5 |
| 1920x816 | 5 |
| 1920x1080 | 4 |

It works/applies to AVCHD/Bluray encodes to...However it works on the Sony BDP S350:)

@Turbojet
yeah, i dont use B Pyramid for this Reasons:

And also B pyramid can cause Problems on Hardware Players(PS3) So i dont use it. Sharktooth has disabled B Pyramid in all DXVA/Standalone Profiles, and i think he knows if its right or not
I cant see any Disadvantges without B Pyramid so far.

I have tried hard to make the PS3 fail to play anything with b-pyramid but I couldn't get it to fail. I'd be curious to know under which conditions the PS3 would have problems with it.
