Hi

I'm really newbie in this world of video ripping, but i'm trying to improve a video source (x264) before reencoding it (also x264, but trying to get a smaller but better file).

This first image is the raw file (530 mb, mp4)

Here we have a second one, extracted from the AU version (AnimeUnderground is a spanish anime fansub, with guys that use to get very good video quality in their videos)

After trying to do a direct conversion using megui I noticed some strange color gradients, so i went back to the source file where I found most of them appearing even before recompression. That's why i think some prefiltering job must be done.
I first tried to remove noise with some different filters, including for example MSmooth, Convolution3D or FluxSmooth, but the results were not good at all (i was even getting worse quality).

Using MSharpen finally got some improvements, but not enough. And that's why I decided to take a look at AU's job. AFAIK their ripping is based on this same RAW file, so it seems to be a matter of finding a good set of filters for this task.
Basicly i can see 2 main differences between AU's version and the raw one:
- better coloring (a bit darker)
- more border detail (very similar to the results i got wih MSharpen).

So the question is: how can i improve this raw file? any coloring filter? or maybe another way to reduce those nasty gradient colors?

Thx in advance

Regards
