I guess I'm old school and want to just copy some files from my HD to a CD or DVD. Once they are copied I just wish to take them to a different computer and copy from cd/dvd to hard drive.

Simple huh.....???

Well, I have some DOC files that copied to a CD using Nero and Record Now Data disk function. I know they burned and verified.

Now comes the time to copy them from the CD/DVD and back onto the hard drive. Record now will not let me copy from CD/DVD to my hard drive unless it is a backup.

It appears that these programs do not have the function to just open a CD/DVD and copy some or all the files into another directory on the hard drive.

Windows explorer will not open the CD/DVD to allow me to see the files and copy and move files to the hard drive.

Can someone tell me what format the files were saved to on the CD/DVD?

I am using windows XP.

Thanks

Larry

Did you use a R/W disk and not finalize it, or create a multisession disk and not close it?

This is nuts.
As stated above I cannot see the files on a cds that I created by using Record Now, Nero or the Windows disk copy wizard.

However, if I place the disk in my wifes computer and go to MY Computer and click on the cd drive all files and data are displayed on her system. She is also using windows XP.

I have checked my files and settings and cannot seem to figure it out. I have not changed anything in my settings.

It's got to be something super stupid simple, but I don't have a clue at this time.

Any suggestions???:stupid:

If you created a multisession disk on your wife's computer and didn't close it, it's entirely possible that you need to take it back and finalize it there.

Any normal, finalized data disk should be readable in practically any XP-based computer, unless the drive is failing.

You might consider getting a USB thumb drive, which is easier and faster to use.

I gotta agree with you, but the disk was created on my computer and was able to read the contents on her computer.

Dosen't make sense to me.

I also know that I can create a data disk on her computer using Nero, and then view it on my computer.

It almost seems I have a switch set wrong somewhere, but can't seem to find out what and why.

With the cost of the USB memory so cheap. I think I will just back the files up to them.

Thanks

I am trying to decide which of the above programs to buy. I tried out Clone DVD on trial and could not figure out how to rid of the Warning at the beginning of my Backups nor could I figure out how to get rid of the Previews of new releases????
If you use the "Copy DVD Title" selection, leave all items checked and clear the "Preserve Menus" check box, all extras will remain intact and will play after the main movie, but the previews and menus will be gone. Loading the disk will launch the main movie automatically.

The other question that I had, was can this program compress 2 discs into 1 regular disc or am I stll better off to use Shrink and Nero together.
It doesn't have a reauthor feature.
