Hi, I am relatively new to video editing and have been having a few issues. I wanted to edit a section from a 2 hr avi file. The avi was encoded with xvid, so I used VirtualDub to cut out the section I wanted to change, decode it and edit it. That went fine without any problems. The problem comes when I try to put it back together. Using adobe premier pro, I cut the new edit back into the previous video, but the audio sync was way off, but not by a constant amount it changed around throughout the video. I tried encoding the uncompressed clip into the same xvid format as the other piece of video and tried to use virtual dub to append avi, but I got an error saying it had a different frame rate. Any advice on what I need to do to fix this or at least what it was that I did wrong would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi!

1) What is the nature of the editing you're doing?

2) What necessitates first cutting out the section to be edited? Can't you load the ENTIRE .AVI into your editing program, edit that area, and resave the entire .AVI?

Thanks for the reply.

The nature of the editing is rotoscoping out a object from a 30 sec clip in the middle of the movie.

The reason that I did not edit the entire video, is because I did not have enough disk space to decompress the entire thing. I estimated around about 800gigs. Is that what is causing the problem? Do I need to have the entire thing uncompressed. If so, I could probably borrow an external HD from someone, but if there was another way, that would be preferable.

Thanks

Your synch problem could be coming from vbr audio - try extracting the stream, converting it to .wav and remuxing with VirtualDubMod before you import into Adobe.
