DVD command buttons problem

A DVD's command buttons (e.g. choice of language) respond to the keyboard direction keys but not to the mouse. Is there a way to correct this?
Incidentally, is there a source listing acronyms and their meaning ?

Perhaps your mouse isn't tracking accurately (Any dirt? Clean it.). Experiment by clicking in the areas immediately around the desired button and continue to try a little further away...
