I got a new hard drive on my computer and reinstalled DeFab and dvd shrink. Now when I backup a movie it wont play on my old player. I also have this problem with my laptop burner. It doesn't mater if I use DeFabg or Decrypter. Must I do something when I'm burning to make it playable on any dvd player? Thanks. I think your old dvd player need you to write on the CD at lower speed. Try 4x.

Hi!
This sounds extremely similar to a thread you started in October, including this statement: I can only play them on a newer DVD player not my old one.Sounds like your old standalone player is dying or dead.
You might want to try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on it. Maxell makes one that sells for about $10US...

I tried running the burn setting at 4x still does not work. I took the dvd to my friends house and the same thing happens at her place. I tried an old one I backedup and a new one at the 4x speed and the max speed where it was set before. Only the one I backed before this problem worked there too. My grandson said a new hard drive should not matter as the old burner and all the other parts are the same.

My grandson said a new hard drive should not matterNo one in this thread suggested anything about replacing your hard drive.
I did, however, suggest that you might want to try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on it. Maxell makes one that sells for about $10US...

What type of DVD media are you using? DVD-R or DVD+R?
If you are using DVD-R, you can try switching to DVD+R. These discs allow for bitsetting to DVD-ROM, which will make your player think that the disc is a pressed disc.
If you are already using DVD+R, again, make sure you are bitsetting to DVD-ROM. I have a 10 year old Toshiba that will not play DVD+R as is.

I'm using DeFab. I was using just the regular, I downloaded the free trial of the Platinum and changed the setting from 9 to 5, and it now works on my old player. I think I will buy the Platinum program. I've read on the forum where people like that program. I do like the fact that it goes right from ripping to changing discs to buring without going out into shrink. You people are a great help to people like me. I recommend you to others that I know have probles. Thanks again for all the help. Gereat job all of you. gjcrnc
