Ripping while playing dvd

it may be possible by just running two processes simultaneously ,
but i'm looking for a decrypter (+transcoder?) of mpeg2, while its playing, like the option to rip tunes while they play.

VLC? It can be used to transcode, IDK if it can display as it encodes, though.

It can display what the encoded output will look like (when in the convert/save wizard, select output > play locally) , but i don't think that can be saved to a file.
