I've been using Matroska since it first came out and I'm really happy to see that there is all sorts of new hardware coming out that has native MKV support.
Two years ago hardly anyone spoke of MKV support. Now it is all over the avsforums HTPC (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=26) and Digital Media Servers & Content Streamers (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=39) forums.
I think 2009 will be the year I can walk into Best Buy or Walmart and get a cheap box that will play 1080p MKV files. Maybe by 2010 we'll get support from Apple and Microsoft
It's good times for MKV indeed!

thanks to the p2p too...:)
btw, divx 7 w/ matroska support is announced (http://www.divx.com/divx7/) for january 2009. So, it might be great also for the mainstream...

Now, to make MKV even more user friendly, it would be great if someone was so nice to write a MKV/MKA tagger, that does not require the user to write some freakish XML and remux whole xGB files just to fix one typo. The only somewhat working option is that ancient shell extension, but it's abandoned for years and buggy as hell.

Hopefully Matroska 2.0 will be more friendly and even more adopted by hardware http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1175400#post1175400

I have an issue with DivX promoting everything related to DivX 7 but not Matroska (noting the bottom logos on the ad)... I have emailed them about this.
