According to Phoronix.

Xine now has Nvidia VDPAU support with a beta version, the new Nvida 180.16 beta driver and the xine-vdpau beta driver.
Installed the beta driver and compiled the new xine-vdpau and i can't see a difference in cpu usage from if i run the hidef m2t sample files in mplayer or xine-ui seems to have the same cpu usage so i must be doing something wrong.
If anyone else is interested take a look and let me know if they were able to see a difference in cpu usage.
You can get the xine better vdpau source from here.

And m2t sample clips to playback

Also remember to set "engine.buffers.video_num_frames:22" in ~/.xine/config
Before running xine/totem-xine/gxine etc.
