hi,

usually I just use the registers "Resolution" & "Bitrate" for encoding a movie in GKnot!

But what do the registers "NanDub Files" & "Stats File Editor" mean?
What can I do with them, are they useful, why should I use them... ?

Those tab's aren't useful to you unless you need to edit your stats file to increase the bitrate or insert a keyframe to certain frames. Don't worry, if all goes well you won't need to use it ;).

ok, but can these registers help me to get a better quality?
if not, you're right ;)

Erm yes it can give you better quality, but is it really worth it to say, raise the bitrate for 10 frames to get rid of macroblocks on the walls? Maybe is you want to get as close to your max CD size than that would be good....

Ooohh; excuse me, but I think GKnot can do a lot much than that ! In fact, it can scale the bitrate curve in a much easier way than Nandub, and that give better results, believe me. In fact what you have to do is just load the .stats file, press the "calculate" button and save it again, and then use it for Nandub's 2nd pass, with the GKnot default.vcf as parameters, so that Nandub will make no calculation on the bitrate curve. With this method you can get filesize-accurate, good quality avi, without bugging with Nandub's settings.

Gknot does that automatically.

Aoh ! yes, ok, sorry, I didn't see what you were about. Felt to me you were saying it wasn't used. Sorry, again.
