It's not hard to get a picture from a computer to a TV screen, only that this picture is wrong in so many ways.

I use a laptop with nVidia GeForce 8600m GS and NVIDIA Control Panel ver: 1.50.30.31
The TV is a Sony 16:9 widescreen CRT.
And I live in a PAL land.

Problems:
- the resolution is wrong (I can't force 576 line resolution)
- the refresh rate is wrong (I can't force 50Hz)
- the colors are a bit wrong (purple and green seen on gray areas)
- the picture is flickering
- the aspect ratio is wrong.

There are so many TV-Out related problems in the web that searching doesn't give satisfactory results.
From all the forums in the entire web, I think Doom9 is the right place to ask for advice like this.

Is there any software solution that solves these problems?

Oh boy...

Well, I think you might be SOL.

nVidia has never been terribly good regarding their TV-Out stuff.

I've tried to get good quality NTSC output several times, and was never successful, and have never tried PAL...

ATi is much better, and offers a truly interlaced output that looks quite good. Unfortunately, you're stuck with nVidia :(

I don't know what to tell you... You might be able to get some support through nVidia directly. My only impression from your symptoms is that your GPU is trying to output an NTSC signal (or some bizarre mutation thereof).

The picture flicker is normal, especially if your tv supports 50 hz only instead of the higher end 100hz. It is more of an issue with computer output material, as you are used to seeing it on a computer screen which is progressive (non-interlaced). Don't expect to be able to read small text on a standard 50 hz interlaced tv screen :).
