View Full Version : Graphedit in Vista

This is a Vista newbie question, cos I kinda missed the whole Vista party, wanting to hang onto XP for a bit longer.

Anyway, my fav thing is to use Theatertek to playback my BD rips. I strip out the main movie, keep the video as is and convert the audio to multi-channel FLAC and mux it all into an mkv file.

However TT needs help playing back the files, which is where Graphedit comes in. I can use graphedit to select the filters I want to use in TT to play back the file.

HOWEVER, I'm trying to learn whether Vista still supports the whole DirectShow thing and, if so, is there a version of Graphedit that works with Vista? I think this is the only way I'm gonna get Theatertek to play back my files under Vista. (BTW....I'm very keen to stick with Theatertek - it's one of only two software media playback apps that are supported by my automation software CQC).

I have tried searching here and in other forums but I really haven't found a clear answer yet. In some posts it looks like there might be a "vista version" of graphedit, but googling hasn't found it - only a "graphedit PLUS" product that wants to be paid $50.

Anyway, if anyone can steer me in the right direction here, I'd sure appreciate it!

You know there are media players like VLC and mplayer that dont give a toss as to wether you have the correct directshow filters installed or not?

both graphedit and graphstudio works flawlessly in vista x64

Also most media players have a CLI, would these not work with your automation software?

Thanks very much for the replies!

I did see the Graphstudio app, but I didn't know whether it worked in Vista or not.

The thing with CQC is that for it to work properly with an app (2 way control) it has to have a driver specifically written for it. Currently the only players it supports are Theatertek and Zoomplayer.

I will definitely check out Graphstudio. Thanks!!!:)

I use GraphEdit all the time on Vista (32- and 64-bit versions).

DirectShow is fully supported on Vista. DirectSound has been dumped and DirectDraw is frowned upon. Existing apps using DirectDraw will cause Aero to be disabled temporarily and DirectSound apps will suffer quite considerable performance hits.

But GraphEdit is as functional as ever. The 32-bit version I have is "Direct X 10.0 - Build 070927".

Normally in a graph I would take the audio out and direct it through to MadFlac to convert the multi-channel audio from flac to PCM. From there I'd either pass it to AC3Filter or directly to the default directsound device.

If you're saying DirectSound has been dumped, how would I handle the audio in Vista? At the end of the day, because it's a HTPC first & foremost, I couldn't give a toss about Aero.
