I would recommend you install the latest ffdshow tryouts and MPC-HC.

I appreciate if some one guide me on how to install the MPC-HC, as I'm new to it don't know how to use it. I found MPC-HC here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=170561) and there is some other DLLs inside the rar file along with MPC, how i have to use them all? shuld i make folder in programes/c and add them all in same folder. And there is Stand alone Filters - Win32, how i use these?

MPCIconLib.dll contains icons that are shown in Windows Explorer when MPC is associated with file extensions. If you leave it out, you'll get generic file type icons.

The MPCResources.<country code>.dll files are translation files; unless you want to use a specific translation you can also just leave them out.

You can just unpack mplayerc.exe somewhere and it'll "just work" (in English, that is). Any translation DLLs or the icon DLL need to be in the same directory as mplayerc.exe, though.

The stand alone filters are DirectShow filters (as can be seen by their ".ax" file extension) that can be registered with Windows using regsvr32.exe and can then be used in *other* DirectShow applications. If you just want to use them in MPC-HC you don't need them at all, as the exact same filters are *also* compiled into MPC-HC's executable.

Ok. Thanks alot Leak for the explanation.

One more thing, do I need to use Haali Media Splitter, and which version of it?

If your file won't play with just MPC because it doesn't have the right splitter or the built-in splitter is bugged - probably.

But as far as I know there's only one version of Haali's splitter (http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/)...

For video, I use mpc-hc with haali splitter for mkv & ts files, on windows xp sp3. For audio, mpc-hc and earlier gabest mpc have problems with 1536k dts over spdif to my receiver, so I disabled the internal ac3 & dts transform filters, installed spdifer (part of the ac3filter project), added it as an external filter, and set it to prefered.

Mpg & dvd is handled internally, but ffdshow tryouts has more options to make them look better. Most of my videos, however, are xvid or hidef blu-ray rips, so I don't bother.

To play blu-ray, you'll need another player, such as powerdvd or arcsoft total media. MPC-HC can handle the raw format files, but not menus. Instead of purchasing those programs, I bought anydvd hd from slysoft and an LG hd-dvd/blu-ray/dvd combo player. The drive is shared across the network, and believe it or not, I can insert the bd in my computer upstairs and use mpc-hc to watch the main movie anywhere else in the house without ripping the disk. Again, no menus, but it is easy to find the single file on a disk that is 20+ gb!

Good luck.

Options->Playback->Output

On my fast computer (Q6600 quad core, nVidia 8600gts) I use VMR9 Renderless, vmr9 mixer mode is checked, 3d surfaces, bicubic a=0.75. This enables shaders and subtitles.

On my slower computer (AMD4600X2 & ATI 4850) I use overlay mixer, and don't have access to shaders. For subtitles, I switch to vmr9 and Direct3D fullscreen to get rid of tearing.
