flame me for this one if you want....it's a pretty LAME question. no pun intended. :D
is there a quick and easy way to encode the audio track at a slightly higher volume?
i've never had the problem before, but for some reason my last encode sounds quiet. i've got to crank the speakers almost all the way up to get decent sound.

Yeah, some DVDs have really low audio. I use Cool Edit
(www.syntrillium.com) to boost the sound.
I think I read somewhere about a DivX program that boosts
the sound and makes the MP3 at the same time.

yeah...thanks for the advice. i'd rather not get into other programs though.
isn't there a way to boost the dB level that azid chooses manually? i think (not too sure) that if i tweaked the dB level, my problem would be solved. if it is possible, how much of a tweak is suitable?

I think I read somewhere about a DivX program that boosts
the sound and makes the MP3 at the same time.
Use BeSweet with the BeSweet GUI. It uses azid to find the maximum gain so you don't have to worry about over-boosting it, and can create an MP3 without intermediate files. It has a lot of other nice features too.

I use the DeDynamic filter within BSplayer, PowerDivX or ZP. This way you don't get any clipping at all and it makes a big difference in loudness.

thanks for the replies, everyone. it's nice to get some varying opinions about what's out there. i always sit in the passenger seat and let GKnot do the driving, but sometimes a certain DVD can be glitchy.
again, all help is much appreciated.

Its easy :
1. If you still have the AC3 from the DVD, use BeSweet with automatic normalizing ( in Azid tick 'auto find max gain' ), use Doom9 Guides for the best settings
2. If you have the WAV still lying on your HDD, but not the AC3 ( low probability ), use either normalize 0.24, SSRC.exe with DanniDin's BeSweet Gui or BeSweet with BeSweet Gui ( uses ssrc.dll ) to normalize the WAV and encode your MP3 again.
3. If its an MP3 sound in your movie demux the MP3 from the movie with either nandub or Vdub ( first to be preferred, it will work in any case ) using the 'save WAV' function with 'audio' set to 'Direct Stream Copy', rename it to 'sound.mp3' , normalize with MP3gain ( link to be found here in a similar thread, guess it was http://www.geocities.com/mp3gain ) and mux the normalized MP3 again with your movie again.
Alternatively, if you're too lazy for this, use PowerDivX 3.12 player for playback and activate the Dedynamic audio filter, set volume to '+200%' resulting in +6 dB sound level .....
All software to be found ..... guess where .... Doom9 download section !! ;)

ChristianHJW: i'm using GKnot to encode my movies. doesn't the program already use the automatic normalize feautre in Azid to find the best dB level? if so, i don't want the level the program's chosen for me becuase it's a bit too low. i'll fiddle with some of the programs that have been recommeded to me in this thread.
i don't mind playing with things a bit. it all results in learning. :)
