I think I just stumbled upon a bug in the free version 0.98.2 in QuEnc mode. The source is a music DVD (NTSC). Menues are progressive, but all the performances are interlaced BFF. The VOBs are flagged correctly, I also verified the field order in VDub.

When I try to convert this DVD using QuEnc 0.72, QuEnc is set to interlaced TFF. I did intercept the command line parameters which DVD-RB passed to QuEnc, and there was no field order parameter. QuEnc does support the "-tff" and "-bff" command line parameters, so I think that in this case DVD-RB should issue the "-bff" parameter to QuEnc.

The reason that I never found this bug before is that interlaced DVD sources usually are TFF even when the original video was shot on a DV camera. But this DVD (Yellowjackets 25) which IMO is mastered very badly is BFF, and DVD-RB does not treat it correctly.

Well, it looks like nobody is using the free version any more...:o

BTW this bug also affects you if you use the HC encoder with the free version of DVD-Rebuilder.

Anyway, I decided I could just as well make my own bug fix for this issue, and if anyone is interested, you can download it here:

//Edit// Just a false alarm, sorry. Please see the next two posts.

Did you see the error in the final results, or just notice the encoder settings/temp video files were "wrong"? DVD-RB deals with field order by encoding the raw video with generic TFF settings and then copying the stream flags from the original VOB files when it rebuilds the final DVD. So despite the encoder settings/.mpv files, the final rebuilt DVD result should match the original, including any original authoring errors.

wmansir, you are right, and I jumped to my conclusions too soon!

DVD-RB 0.98.2 will cause the encoder to work with wrong field order settings sometimes, but during the rebuild phase DVD-RB resets the TFF flag to the state of the source. So unless the encoder uses the field order setting for something more than just flagging its output (which I do not know), then this "bug" does not exist.

Sorry for sounding a false alarm, please disregard my previous posts. I just got alarmed when looking at the HC encode window HC was telling me in capital letters "TFF" while I knew that my source was BFF.
