View Full Version : avidemux and quicktime on mandriva?

i'm using a small network of mandriva boxes to convert raw files from
a canon 5d still camera shooting timelapse images into tga files at
standard 2k frame size (2048x1536). it takes a long time. when the
tga frames are all created, i move them to my macpro for another
round of conversion into quicktime files (uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2).
this seems necessary for final cut pro to be able to work with the
images. the conversion to quicktime takes a long time and ties up the
macpro during the process.

does avidemux have the ability to open a tga image sequence and
output to a quicktime file in both uncompressed 10 and 8 bit 4:2:2?

i'd love to be able to keep this part of the process on the mandriva
system and just bring everything over to the macpro when it's finished.

thanks,
BabaG

ok, let's try this: is there a way, using either virtualdub or avidemux, to get
an uncompressed 10 bit 422 output that final cut can work with? or any kind
of uncompressed output that final cut can deal with, for that matter.

everything i've tried to output from virtualdub comes up as unrecognized by
final cut, and avidemux doesn't seem to have any menu options for
uncompressed output.

final cut alleges it works in a yuv colorspace.

Hi!

I'm not personally familiar with the Mac software, "FinalCut".

Are you certain that it accepts .AVI files as input?

thanks setarip_old.

yes, final cut does accept avi's. they're not the preferred format as
final cut is apple proprietary software. quicktime is preferred as it is
also apple. an example, however, would be that final cut seems to
make little or no distinction between container formats for dv files.
if the file is dv format, it handles avi and mov equally, or nearly
equally, well. my hope is that, if i can deliver an uncompressed file
in a compatible format, the container will be ignored in that case as
well.

thanks again,
