I made a backup copy of Hancock, movie only, and when I put it in my dvd player, it starts to play, but the screen is black. If I hit "next", it goes to chapter 2, then I can rewind it to the beginning, and all is fine.
I use DVD Fab HD Decrypter to rip, then shrink + nero or shrink + imgburn to burn (depending on which computer I use).
Is there some easy way to fix this problem? This is only the third movie I've done that has experienced this problem. The others were Vantage Point and Stealth I believe.

Are you using the latest version (currently v5.1.2.2)?
It had to be updated recently for this movie.

I've just checked this and that's not the way it starts here.
There are producers logos etc. just before a car chase scene with the same music playing in the background the whole way through.

I also just checked - For my R1, full disc version, after the multiple warning screens there is a black screen for 4 seconds (not 15) and then the appearance of "Lady Columbia", with some background jabber that sounds like the beginning of a recording of a live musical performance - and then the opening credits...

The R2 disc must be slightly different then.
Sometimes I wonder why they bother changing such relatively minor things for different regions.
Oh well, nothing to worry about though. :)

I don't think so. When it rips ok using an older version, I'm usually good.

But if you're having problems then it may appear to have ripped okay but hasn't.
It's probably either whatever you're doing in Shrink or an outdated version of DVDFab HD Decrypter that's causing your difficulties.
Follow though your chain of actions and try and establish where see where the difficulty first arises.
Do the initially ripped files (before processing with Shrink) exhibit the same problem when played from hard disk?
