Hi to everyone in the forum...who loves me.
I'd like to ask a question that may be can sound incredible silly to someone...but I need help for that. :o

I'm able to make SVCD and/or VCD with the help of d2s but when I try to play back it, the disk seems not play in very first attempt and only after a couple of tests it start to play nice and easy.

Could be an explanation of this issue because I'm using to resize for a DVD resolution (720x480/576)? or I'm missing others settings?
Hope someone will help me because I'm a disant guy.

Bye,
Stefano.

Hi!the disk seems not play in very first attempt and only after a couple of tests it start to play nice and easy.Sounds like a hardware problem. Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disk on your hardware player. Maxell makes one that sells for about $10US...

Hi mate,
as first I'd like to say thank to you for your reply. :)

May be you're right, it's something related to my CD-DVD reader/burner that I know by my self has never performed really well.
But let me ask you just one more question.
Can I resize to a DVD resolution when I'm making a svcd or I have to leave it as a standard svcd?

Bye,
Stefano.

In order for the disc you make to be compliant with the VCD or SVCD standard, you must resize to the correct resolution:
320 x 240/288 (NTSC/PAL respectively) for VCD
480 x 480/576 for SVCD

If you use DVD resolution this results in a non-compliant disc which may or may not play back correctly, depending on what is being used to play it.

There is no great merit in terms of image quality in using DVD resolution on VCD, since you are limited to low bitrate MPEG1 compression. Unless the clips you are converting are very short, the bitrate will be too low for decent quality with SVCD@DVD-resolution too.

Right... in your experience there are others particular settings that I have to look after before to start making a scvd.

I'm more than a thank to you.
Bye,
Stefano.

Just a small correction to Nick's post above, VCD pic size is 352 x 240/288.
