View Full Version : Converting PAL Xvid to NTSC MPEG2 DVD-compliant

I have a pal xvid tv cap that I would like to convert to ntsc dvd-compliant mpeg2 for DVDLab Pro. The last couple of days I've been trying to find one guide that deals with both conversions at the same time but didn't find one. I'm guessing it doesn't exist because they need to be done separately? If this is true, then which is better to do first - pal to ntsc and then xvid to mpeg2 or vice versa? What conversion software gives good results for dvd-compliant video? Thanks for any help.

Transcode video to MPEG2 720x480 25fps. Apply 25->29.97 pulldown with DGPulldown. Don't touch the audio. Author to DVD with the authoring package of your choice.

I had it backwards, I'm glad I asked. Thanks. I was hoping to use Half-D1 instead of full as you suggested. I've never worked with half and my knowledge is limited with mpeg. (know xvid better) Do you know any general issues that I should be aware of before proceeding? Like is this setting limited on standalone players?

I've no idea what you are talking about with the "backwards" stuff, or indeed anything else you just posted. Can you try again please?

You're making a DVD, right? So why not use the full DVD resolution?

Hi!I have a pal xvid tv cap that I would like to convert to ntsc dvd-compliant mpeg2

1) What resolution did you use when you captured the PAL TV show?

2) Forgive my curiosity but, if you're in "PAL Land", why are you desirous of converting the capture you made from PAL to NTSC?

I apologize for not being clear in my other post. Please disregard what I said, I found the answers I needed. You're right, Full is better than Half and I did as you suggested. After 7 screw ups I think I finally got it. Is there a way to test the audio and video elementary streams to make sure they're in sync before compiling in DLP?

Hi setarip_old!

The resolution for the original is a standard tv cap 640x352.

Curious huh? Well... what can I say? I'm not in "PAL Land", I'm on the other side of the pond. ;)

Is that OK with you? :)

OP has a PAL TV rip but is not in PAL land. Closed for rule 6 violation.
