Did you face any bugs, it works as long as there are no bugs you should be fine

nope...no bugs....just curious since it seems to have fallen off the map since May 08

Just because there was no update it doesn't mean it has fallen off the map or anything like that.

can 1-pass vbr be as effective as 2 pass?

I have some suggestions:

- Profil compatible with BluRay (autoGOP at 24 for max)
- VAQ and Psy-RD code from x264

add trellis :)
1 pass vbr mode
Gop size > 36 (300)
VAQ from x264 :) (VAQ Shikari from x264 for XviD )

add trellis:

Already here I think

1 pass vbr mode

In the next realise

Gop size > 36 (300)

Useless because not compliant with hardware player.

VAQ from x264 :) (VAQ Shikari from x264 for XviD )HC already has VAQ...

Useless because not compliant with hardware player

But gop size = 300 good for low bitrate, may be hardware player its played too

DVD want 0.606 sec for GOP ... anything else unfortunaly.
BD can use 2 sec GOP with 720p60 and 120 frames for GOP. It's the really max usefull value. Moreover 120 frames or infinite GOP don't produce big difference in efficiency term (less than 2%).

Does CUDO implementation make sense?

Adub
20th December 2008, 18:38
You mean CUDA? No, it doesn't. It's too much work, and frankly, I am happy with the speeds that I am getting on my quad core.

However, if Hank wants to spend the time to support it, I am sure that we would all appreciate it.

There are no possible discution about that: compliant MPEG2 stream for DVD must have 0.606 sec GOP. There are certainely SAP not compatible with your stream.

Yes, I have ever do some with GOP=64 and my 2 machines play fine at normal speed. However, Both have same issue at quick forward/backward - will directly jump to previous/next chapter. I tried to reduce GOP=36 and only 2X can work. But, with a fully compatible DVD, my machines play fine at 8X - the max. value descripted at the manual.

No, some player from Sony or Pionner (and certainely other) use strict compliant profil for MPEG2 decoding. Profil for DVD is 0.606 sec for GOP. Nothing else. It's not necessary to discut that. Moreover professional authoring software want compliant stream too and nothing else.
