View Full Version : Possible to get WMP to use CoreAVC without unregistering PDVD8 AVC decoder?

-I encode BDs to X264, so that the PCs on my network without BD drives can play the movies.

-The aggressive x264 settings that I use don't seem to be fully compatible with PowerDVD's AVC decoder. Some encodes work fine; others look extremely blocky. However, CoreAVC works like a charm.

-In order to have my media players use CoreAVC instead of PDVD, I have to unregister the PDVD8 AVC decoder using CCCP Insurgent. This effectively breaks Blu-Ray playback in PowerDVD.

So my question is: Is it possible to assign the CoreAVC decoder to Windows Media Player/Media Center without having to unregister the PDVD8 decoder?

Thanks :)

Have you tried ticking "Preferred decoder" in CoreAVC's configuration?

I don't see that option.

I don't mean to sound accusing but you do have a legal copy of CoreAVC purchased from CoreCodec, right? Not a dodgy old version installed with some codec pack.
The Preferred decoder option has been in CoreAVC for quite some time.

OK, you caught me. I'm using a year old version of CoreAVC that came with Quicktime Alternative. I guess I'm going to have to upgrade.

Thanks for the help.

I now have the latest version of CoreAVC installed...so no more fights between PDVD8 and CoreAVC. Yay!

One more problem, though. DirectVobSub (VSFilter.dll) stopped loading automatically. Is there any way to set DVS as my preferred subtitle "decoder"?
