Background :

For quite some time I have been making recordings from the BBC HD channel on astra 28 using DVBViewer (and sometimes DVBDream)
I record only the H.264 video and AC3 audio streams.
Without any kind of remuxing the final recordings can all be streamed to PS3 via TVersity or directly burned to Disc and will play on PS3.
The file properties of these recordings obtained from Mplayer are like this for stereo or 5.1 AC3

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1440x1088 [Video]
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz stereo 384Kbps [Audio]

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1440x1088 [Video]
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch 384Kbps [Audio]

The Problem :
Testing a new Ps3 Media Server (PMS) http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/ I tried to serve a "Live" recording to the PS3 which sort of worked but had consequences.
The effect - The recordings AC3 audio is not recognized in PS3 (but should be - I have served live recordings before with TVersity).

Later inspection of the file properties of the recording using Mplayer Classic shows the AC3 384 Kbs Audio track is misrepresented as something else (AAC. or Mpeg Audio with very odd frequencys and bitrates)

MPC reported file properties from 5 recordings with malformed audio info

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1440x1088 [Video]
Audio: AAC 32000Hz 4ch 299Kbps [Audio]

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1440x1088 [Video]
Audio: AAC 12000Hz 0ch 617Kbps [Audio]

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1440x1088 [Video]
Audio: AAC 48000Hz stereo 1893Kbps [Audio]

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1440x1088 [Video]
Audio: MPEG Audio 44100Hz stereo 448Kbps [Audio]

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1440x1088 [Video]
Audio: AAC 48000Hz stereo 327Kbps [Audio]

The actual audio track is not changed - it is still AC3 5.1 (or AC3 2.1) 384Kb/s- just the files properties for audio track that are wrong.

All Subsequent recordings with AC3 5.1/2.1 384Kbs have the wrong file properties even though PMS is not running.(That is the part that bothers me)

DVBDream recordings with AC3 are doing the same.

The Author of PMS doesnt know of anything in his program that would do this, and there are no replies to my post over on DVBViewer forums.

So any ideas as to what is going on or on how to rectify this will be most welcome.

OS Vista Home Premium SP1
DVBViewer 3.9.4
E6700 core2 duo
Intel Badaxe2 MB
2Gb RAM
GeForce 7650GS

thanks,

Hi potnoodles the problem you are getting is down to the way that bbc hd is currently transmitting the audio it's a repeat of the problem listed here http://www.dvbviewer.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=18449&st=0&p=135131&
from the look of it the tool is now unavailable to fix the start codes, if you need it pm me if you dont have it available to you, the one thing you will have to change is the audio pid which if i remember right defaults to 2319 which it was at the time the tool was issued, its currently 2329, I have a legit version of the dvbviewer application and actually had to use the tool myself on a capture from last night, the engineers at the bbc/red bee are always playing, they fixed the widescreen flag issue which has been around for ages and re-introduced this old problem.
