View Full Version : Aspect Ratio Problem (?)

Ok, so I have a load of videos that have the size 704x480. Now, these videos are set into a 16:9 ratio, and have variable framerate.
I watch these Vids on my Xbox 360 (they are mp4 by the way, and I am sure that it uses the H.264 codec).

But, because these files are japanese, I add subs for obvious reasons. The problems begin with the fact that for the subs to display the way they should, I need to make the videos that apparently have a 4:3 AR (although they display as 16:9) into true 16:9 videos. For this, they need to be resized into something like 720x400. So I do that, and convert framerate and set everything as needec with Xvid4PSP (uses avisynth script).

I use Mediacoder to encode everything, since I now have the perfect settings using that program. Here is my problem, when I encode I have to once again resize the video to 704x480 (from the earlier set 720x400), with a 16:9 ratio. However, even though the video plays EXACTLY the way I want it to on the PC, the aspect ratio says stupid things like 57:32 and other rediculous numbers. It isnt 16:9.

When I play these files on the xbox, it turns it into fullscreen and the subtitles are not visible. The original files play fine, with the black bars at the bottom so it is widescreen where I would be able to see the subtitles.

Due to the Xbox displaying the subbed versions in fullscreen no matter what, I cant see the subtitles, and it is really annoying me.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening. Sorry for the MASSIVE description, but I just didnt know how to word it.

I really want to keep the video at 704x480, and I cant understand why even though I set the AR to 16:9, it comes out strange. Please help. Thanx in advance.

What are the source videos and where did you get them?

Well, they are Yugioh 5D's (Anime)
And I got them from a friend who puts them on a data disk. Dunno where he gets em though...I expect he downloads them.
One thing I do know, they are DEFINITELY TV rips.

Dunno where he gets em though...I expect he downloads them. I see, and you just have utter contempt for our forum rules. Is that it?
