View Full Version : Blu-Ray: wine + Windows program instead of Linux program?

I've always found DVDFab Decryptor to be the best DVD ripper. Linux tools were very unreliable with the evolving DVD copy protections.
Now I've got the aacskeys + dumphd setup working for Blu-Ray, but I'm wondering if I might be better off with wine and DVDFab HD Decryptor or AnyDVD HD. Do they make the process easier? Do they work with wine?

DVD HD Decrypter doesn't handle all of the new HD protections. And I don't know if AnyDVD HD works with wine, but I doubt it.

How does aacskeys + dumphd do with new protections?

what do you mean? we have processing keys that work for MKBv8 but not for MKBv9 so aacskeys will currently get Volume IDs and VUKs for as high as MKBv8 discs (i don't know for sure if the current keys work for MKBv5 discs, if those exist). For MKBv9 or higher we'll need a new processing key i think.

I remember reading that they're using different techniques now like they were with DVDs. Messing up certain sectors, etc. Can AnyDVD and DVDFab handle MKBv9? Of course I'm all for Linux tools but I'm trying to get a head start on the first Blu-Ray I won't be able to rip.

AnyDVD HD can handle MKBv9 (since version 6.4.6.5):

Thanks cord-factor, does DVDFab guide you through selecting the correct .m2ts files at all?

AnyDVD does not work in Wine, sadly, likely due to their driver-based method.
@ggking: Not necessary for most titles - just find the biggest m2ts. Dunno if they have the feature. I think there's a way of reading the playlist file to find info to help choose, though... read it a long time back... not specific to DVDFab.
I use a virtual machine... hate it, but oh well. One would think Linux would be on top of the pack with anti-copy-protection tools, on account of all the awesome anti-DRM hippies :D
