View Full Version : Worst case of telecine

I've try the best I can with one video file and still can't get good results.
Video has following parameters: PAL, 25 fps, 720x576.

I've tried many different combinations of filters (telecide, Bob, Shift Fields, and so on), and the best result I can get it's following. Image is quite fine, but on pause during fast motion I can see "ghosts" of following and previous positions of object.
Just to make sure, I've wrote this VOB on DVD-RW and have played it on my Pioneer DVD player. I can see exactly the same result -- "ghosts" of previous and following positions of object.
Is it possible to get crystal video quality of this hard case?
If somebody will try to help me, you can download this file on hXXp://narod.ru/disk/276050000/Bez%20vinta%201.VOB.html
It is enough to download 3-5 Mb (first 5 seconds), there is no need to download complete file. First 5 seconds will give total picture.

Maybe it'S field blended? And maybe it's a rule #6 violation ???

And maybe it'S not telecined, as all PAL dvd'S ?:D

Is what you've uploaded the original video or one of your conversions? Make sure to upload only a small sample of the original which includes some of the more problematic scenes.

It's original video. You don't have to download all of it. Just first 3-5 Mb will be enough.
And after LoRd_MuldeR's words (GREAT THANX, man) I have to admit, that video has worst case of field blended. There are two objects position in both fields. 8-(

You can try to remove the blending (search for a suitable Avisynth script, e.g "Restore24") -or- simply bob the source to 50 fps and accept the remaining ghosts...

LoRd_MuldeR, I've try Restore24. I can't get good result with it. 8-(
Could you be more specific about second way? (specially about accepting ghosts).

I mean: Use a bobber (e.g. YADIF in "bob" mode) and accept the result as it comes out.

IMO deinterlacing field blended video to 25p doesn't look good - motion is jerky. But bobbing it to 50p is probably okay...

I've install Yad Deinterlace Filter for VirtualDub (VDYADIF.vdf). It has two options -- parity & Full mode. In both cases (with 50 fps output) the results are the same. 8-(
Or should I use one more filter to YDYADIF result video?

And I have another stupid question. If I have video with "ladder" (some sharp horizontal lines) instead of slope lines, which filter should I use to make them more smoother?

Yadif has two options: "Skip spatial interlacing check" and "Double Framerate" (aka Bobbing).

I don't know which options are exposed in the VDub version, but I'd recommend to use "Double Framerate" and to keep the "Skip spatial interlacing check" disabled.

This of course won't remove the "ghosting" effect, but the effect will be less noticeable. It'll look more like it used to look on a classical 50 Hz CRT TV screen.
