I have a Hitachi DVD GD500 drive in my Dell computer with an S-video out to my TV.
I have had no problem watching DVD movies on my TV using the Cinemaster software included when I purchased the computer.
My problem is I prefer PowerDVD, as I have started making SVCD's, but can't get the video to display on my TV. All I get is the coloured test pattern.
It's as though the drive only recognizes the Cinemaster software.
Anyone else experience this issue?

well I have used powerdvd with my Geforce/Pro tv out card and has worked everytime.
Sounds like you got PowerDvd working for you when you dont do the tv out function so that is strange.
What version of powerdvd and operation system?
I'm using XP/PRo with Powerdvd 4.0

Yeah, it is strange.
It's probably something really easy too.
I'm using Win 98 with PowerDVD 4.0 XP. PowerDVD works flawlessly too.
Do I have to make any speacial adjustments in configuration? I looked through there, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
Thanks for your reply chainsaw 135. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

I do know that I use the powerdvd 3.0 with windows Me...about the same as 98se :) but regardless i cant remember the issues i had with powerdvd4.0 on windows ME but i can say i had some problems so i used the 3.0 and now it works!
I should just boot up in to windows ME and reinstall the 4.0 but i'm to lazy so if you have powerdvd 3.0 just for fun try that version see if it might help.....
Just curious what type of video card are you using?

My video card is a 32MB Diamond Viper V770D AGP.
This may be the problem. I found this on the CyberLink website, and it's not too encouraging:
Q :My video card supports TV out function. Why can't I receive the video on TV?
A :
The main reason is because the DVD Forum asked all DVD player
developers (hardware and software) to protect analog output (TV-OUT) by
MacroVision. Therefore, the problem may caused by one of two reasons:
1.When the MacroVision chipset located in your VGA card detects the
electric equipment which is connected when the TV power is on, it will
interfere TV-OUT function.
Our suggestion: Please turn the electric equipment power off which is
connected to your TV.
2.There are many display cards in the market with a built-in TV-OUT
function. However, there are some VGA cards that are not approved by
MacroVision. Therefore, a DVD software decoder, like Power DVD, is
forced to shut down the TV-OUT function to prevent any illegal
recording action.
Our suggestion: Please find a VGA card approved by MacroVision. Then
you can watch DVD via the TV-OUT function.

Found this on ZDNet - regarding the latest drivers for my video card:
"This driver does not support MacroVision"
Sh+t!

Well last time I read up on the subject of Svcd's and macrovision
I thought the rippers took out the macrovision protection so that made it basically free of that problem. SOmeone with more knowledge might need 2 confirm this. Tho if you played a regular dvd through the video card I could see a problem but not SVCD unless i'm wrong about the taking out of the macrovision.
