Not sure which forum this fits in, so I try this one..

Is there a good utility for extracting mpeg-streams from a VOB-set? Assume I record some stuff on my DVD-recorder.. Then I want to extract the mpeg/ac3's as regular streams from the VOB's on my computer.
I've tried a utility called "rejig" but I always get sync issues with the audio (yes there's an option to adjust audio in Rejig but it doesn't seem to matter).
Hints?

Some other options you can try: mpg2cut2, avidemux or videoredo; or you can try DGIndex to get elementary streams

The sync issues might be from discontinunities/errors during recording. Videoredo can often fix errors with the "quickstream fix" option, but unfortunately it's not free

Hi!

As an alternative, you can always use good ol' DVD Decrypter as follows:

1) Load your DVD

2) Set DVD Decrypter to "IFO" mode

3) DVD Decrypter should automatically highlight/select the main

movie under the "Input" tab

4) Click on the "Stream Processing" tab and check "Enable

stream processing"

5) UNcheck all of the videostreams and audiostreams OTHER

THAN THE ONE YOU WISH TO EXTRACT.

6)HIGHLIGHT the stream you wish to extract

7) Click on "Demux"

8) Click on the "Destination" icon and select the drive/folder

location to save the audiostream or videostream to

9) Click on the "Decrypt" icon

Note - For an LPCM stereo audiostream, you may have to go

to:

Tools>>Settings>>IFO Mode and increase the VOB/WAV size from

1Gb to 2Gb, in order to be sure to generate only one .VOB/WAV file for

the entire audiostream

You may also try MPEGStreamclip (http://www.squared5.it).

You can use DVDShrink.
Load the files ( as you would with a dvd).
Under 'Output' un-tick 'Seperate to 1G blocks'.
When your output is complete, you only have one large VOB file.
Rename that to '*.mpg'
Done.

PgcDemux - works perfectly, as does VobEdit

While that works, it is not really converting a VOB to a MPG, it is simply changing the file extension, it is still a VOB file and some software may complain that it is not a proper MPG file.

oRBIT, TMPGEnc also has good demultiplexing capabilities.

Hi!it is still a VOB file and some software may complain that it is not a proper MPG file.

Although what you state may (fairly frequently) occur with regard to commercial DVDs, it's not likely to present a problem here, as "oRBIT stated:Assume I record some stuff on my DVD-recorder..A homebrewn DVD such as this will typically have only one videostream and one audiostream and, therefore should likely playback properly if the extender is simply changed to ".MPG"...

VOB2MPG converts your DVD to MPG file(s). It goes through a whole DVD VIDEO_TS folder and joins up the various vobsets to produce mpgs for the different titles. It does NOT reconvert the video and audio. Requires .net framework 2.
