It most probably tells you that VDubMod has crashed during elaboration; if it happens only during the first pass, your resulting AVI file is not coherent with the analysis and very likely is way over/undersized. If it happens during the second pass, you resulting AVI is incomplete (it's missing the last 30k frames).

Probable causes are overclocking and/or overheating of the CPU, I think.

OP did not mention crash so I think it's a different problem:

153566 / 122853 = 1.24997

29.970 / 23.976 = 1.25

Well that's very close...

Which looks like the OP forgot to check the "IVTC in avs -> correct Frame Count" box in GK for IVTC'ing 29.970 content to 23.976 FPS

It is a recalculation and not an error, and if your videos look ok there's nothing to fix.

I tend to agree with pr0norama, that didn't come to (my) mind 'cause I live in PAL land and IVTC is usually not necessary.

@CWR03: I won't offhandedly call it a "recalculation" anyway: the difference is so big that all indications given by the GK interface (desired size of video stream opposite to the audio one/s) will be meaningless and the resulting encoding will be very different from the desired one .... especially since, if pr0norama is right, the error is a conceptual one.

A question about GKMod : why doesn't vdubmod works when muxing avi ?:);):devil:

I get the error just right after first pass finishes (and before second pass)... the video turns out just fine with the error but the problem is the filesize, they always turn out way of the size i want both over and under 700 mb

Again, it's not an error. The filesize issue is likely from having installed Xvid over an older version. If you're using IVTC, the warning will show up every time. It's simply notifying you that there has been a framerate correction.

I'm on a fresh installation of my OP so only one version of xvid have been installed and the size problem is the same no matter if i use 23 or 29 fps.

XviD version has nothing to do with the filesize issue, in this case. As pr0norama suggested, the issue is related the IVTC flag.

If you're not using it correctly, the filesize calculator (which is deeply based on the number of frames of the encode) will always work incorrectly and the planned size of the video stream will never be met, that's all

And BTW, I already said this, if not this clearly, in my second post:

... all indications given by the GK interface (desired size of video stream opposite to the audio one/s) will be meaningless and the resulting encoding will be very different from the desired one

Let's try this, then - do an encode and list here every step you take, every setting you have in Gordian Knot, or at the very least a screenshot of each window right before you save the project.

What version of Xvid are you using? Gordian Knot will not give correct file sizes with the latest version of Xvid using IVTC.

Selecting 23.976 from the framerate selector in the Gordian Knot window does nothing at all to the encode process. It is only a function of the calculator.

I use "XviD-1.1.3-28062007"

Well you have to choose: either IVTC to 23.796 FPS or do de-interlacing and keep the framerate @ 29.970 FPS

You're not using Inverse Telecine (IVTC) under "Field Operations" so in this case you must NOT check the "IVTC in avs -> correct Frame Count" box.

I don't know if IVTC is really an option here (it depends on the source) you should check this guide:

Your filesize issues are because Gordian Knot won't work properly with the "stock" Xvid 1.1.3 install. There's a fix for it or you can downgrade to the last VfW version of Xvid. I switched to x264 instead, which also requires the last VfW build.

As long as theres not more players on the marked that can handle x264 then i'll keep doin XviD....

So where can i get the fix or at least whats the latest version of xvid that works with GK??

CWR03

I think 1.0.2 was the last VfW version, but I'm not having much luck locating it.

Edit: GKnot's installer comes with 1.0.3.

Again and again, CWR03 .. it's maybe the third or fourth time that I'm telling you that XviD 1.1.3 or 1.2.127 works like a charm in my installation of GK, no issues with the bitrate or target or whatever ... and you never replied to me

I don't know if it is because, like I said, I live in PAL land and never had to encode from an NTSC/telecined DVD ... is that the case where you're telling the world that "latest XviD release are not compatible with GK" ?!?!

Stormshadow

I also like in a PAL country (i just have a lot of ntsc dvds) but the problem is with both formats...

Same here, I've been using Xvid 1.1.3 for quite some time with GK now without any (file size) problems on both PAL and NTSC sources.

IVTC isn't a common issue for PAL DVD's, so like CWR03 suggested file size problems can also be related to old versions of Xvid being installed over a newer version.

Try un-installing and then re-installing Xvid

I did, i switched to XviD_1.2.-127-25022006 yesterday... same problem.
