Hi jdobbs,
I was wondering if there is a way to use DVD-RB Pro to encode only a short piece of a .VOB file.
It'll be great if one can use DVD-RB just for encode a short portion of a big .VOB contained inside a DVD.
For example I can capture form a DVB-T device after that with projectX I demux the .TS file captured to its elementary streams and at the end I open it with cuttermaran.
Cuttermaran can then encode the mpg file and mux it with ImagoMPG-Muxer. (where I can chose VOB as output extention for the final file)
My question is:
Is there any sort of workaround that I can use to make the mpeg or VOB files I created in this way, to be readable to DVD-RB so that it can encode it to a standard DVD (playable to a stand alone DVD player)?
Hope my request is clear exposed.
Thanks in advantage,
Stefano. :helpful:

Once you have a DVD project, complete with IFOs and VOBs, use the Preview/Segment Editor, where you can blank segments or mark them not be re-encoded.
If your segments don't fall where you want them to, use VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) to split cells.

Hi blutach,
thanks for reply me. :)
I think is clear in mind if I have VIDEO_TS folder with all the IFOs and VOBs but...
Do you know if Cuttermaran can output the IFO files?
If yes, what I have to do is to create a folder named "VIDEO_TS" and than copy the IFO and VOB in it. Is it right?
Bye,
Stefano.
P.S.
Instead VobBlanker can I use PGEdit too?

Hi Stefano,
me again...:)
I am stepping in here because I believe you did not completely understand the concept of how to convert a captured TS file to DVD.
Cuttermaran can then encode the mpg file and mux it with ImagoMPG-Muxer. (where I can chose VOB as output extention for the final file)
Cuttermaran does NOT encode anything, it just cuts. The TS file you have captured is already encoded. The format is MPEG2-TS (TS stands for Transport Stream). In order to make a DVD from this file you need to convert the TS format to PS (Program Stream). This is NOT reencoding. If you demux the TS file with ProjectX, the TS to PS conversion is done automatically by ProjectX.
After ProjectX has done its work, you have to decide if you need to edit the files (e.g. to cut out commercials) or not. If you only need simple cutting, you use Cuttermaran. If you need to apply AviSynth filters (sharpening, change brightness or contrast, whatever), then and ONLY THEN you need to reencode. If no cutting or filtering is necessary, then you just feed the output of ProjectX to an authoring application and burn your DVD (WITHOUT reencoding).
If you do not need menues and navigation, the free version of MuxMan has everything you need. It muxes and authors in one step, and the result is a VIDEO_TS folder with all the necessary files on your hard drive. If you do want to create menues, DVDStyler, DVDAuthorGUI and GUI for DVDAuthor are all nice (and free) authoring applications.
To answer your original question (how to reencode your muxed Cuttermaran output files with DVD-RB):
You have to "author" your muxed MPG or VOB file to create a complete DVD structure on your hard drive. Again the easiest way is to use MuxMan. In Cuttermaran you have to disable muxing. Feed the resulting elementary streams (MyFile_cut.m2v and MyFile_cut.mpa or mp2) into Muxman. If you need chapters, Cuttermaran can even create the "Celltimes.txt" file for you which can be imported into MuxMan. As a result you will get a VIDEO_TS folder with all necessary files. DVD-RB will happily accept this folder as your source.
But again: There is absolutely no need to reencode unless you need filters.

Again manolito you're are the best teacher... for me :thanks:
Now I have the ideas (at least I hope :o) much more clear.
I'm more than a thank to you, because for me that's a completely new word and unfortunately I'm alone, I mean there is no one who refer to.
That's why I'm so thank to you for pointing me every time in the right track! :helpful:
Bye,
Stefano.

Sorry manolito if I ask to you again, :p
I stared to get familiarity with Muxman but I'm founding hard to understand how to author when I want to create a one page menu.
I mean, I know how to do a very basic authoring but now,
How can I make a single page DVD with a standard scene menu? (using MuxMan) :thanks:
Hope you want help me again, may be pointing me thought a good web page where to read about that.
Bye,
Stefano.

I believe that you should not waste your time trying to do that. I know that I cannot do this, and unless you are willing to spend a lot of time figuring out MuxMan's script format you won't be able to do that, too.
For authoring using simple menues I use DVDStyler. This is a frontend for MPlex and DVDAuthor, not all that powerful, but quite easy to use.
We are getting OT for this thread, you should open a new thread in the authoring section of this forum...

Hi mate,
thanks for your reply,
I'm telling the truth, I was thinking pretty the same of you.
I wanted to know which ones between DVDStyler and DVDAuthorGUI you was use to play.
I don't want go any further with this thread.
Bye and thanks agan,
Stefano :p
