I keep re-reading the sticky resource thread in this forum, and going over the topics currently posted, but I do not see anyone discussing a program for ripping a DVD in mac OSX to an iso file ?
I used to use dvddecryptor on windows, and the key thing for me was ripping to a single ISO file _and_ stripping out the PUA/PUOs along the way.
What program should I be looking at to replace this "entire DVD including all extras and menus, and stripping the PUAs, to a single ISO file" functionality on a mac ?
thanks.

use disk utility. it is build into os x and it in in applications/utilities. you select your disc drive on the left and then click new image on the top (if my memory serves me).

UHmmm....yeah.
And disk utility defeats CSS and other copy protection ? That's news to me.
Also, disk utility removes PUOs/PUAs ? I had no idea.
So, back to reality: is there really no standard dvd->iso utility for OSX ?

if you rip to an ISO, you can play it fine in vlc. If you want decrypted VOBs you should have said so. Also, you should be more appreciative of other people's advice, especially when you ask such a basic question.

Well, I guess I need to be more specific.
I want dvddecryptor for the mac. I know that doesn't exist, but that's the functionality I am looking for.
I use a lot of different players, including XBMC, which do not have deCSS built into them. So what I need are unprotected iso files, just like I used to get with dvddecryptor.
And that is what you are saying does not exist for the mac ?
thanks.
EDIT: also, I did not ask for VOB files. I do not want VOB files. I don't want any files. I just want a single, decrypted ISO.

Ok, so the consensus is:
There is no Mac OSX tool for ripping a DVD to a standalone, _unprotected_, decrypted, single ISO file.
That is to say, there is no dvd-decryptor equivalent for mac OSX.
That's too bad :( I'm curious - is it really so rare to rip to ISO ? It seems like nobody really does it, which is odd, since it seems like the most useful and extensible format ... comments ?

Rip with MacTheRipper and create an ISO image with some DVD burner app, if you prefer an image file to a directory.

to decrypting DVDs, i suggest these softwares:
1. MacTheRipper (http://www.mactheripper.org), totally free.
2. Handbrake (http://www.handbrake.fr), a very powerful and professional free tool.
3. iSkysoft DVD Ripper for Mac (http://www.moviesmac.com/dvd-ripper-mac/#119), it is easier to use and more stable, although not free.

you may able to use dvdshrink to create 1:1 copy minus css + other restrictions (works on Linux with wine). You might need to use CLI in order to install windows programs. Never used OS X.
I've been using it since I upgraded KDE (which did not contain easy to use decrypting kio slave on konqueror :()
