hey, this is my first self taught attempt at ripping dvd. got as far
as ripping and merging the vob file, now need to convert it. trying to use
mpeg2avi with the gui...not sure what settings to choose, getting error undefined option - 5 ignored....have txt document that suggests
the following command to use...
mpeg2avi -b C:\ripped\01.vob -f0 -3y 416 - 1 720 320 output.avi5
which does not work...
the command that i generated with the gui is this...
"C:\mpeg2v12.exe" -b "C:\VTS_01_1.VOB" -f0 -q0 -r2 -1 720 304 -3Y 540 -o5 -5 4 "C:\(i read somewhere that you dont specify a file name with some versions, you just put a directory to put file in, tried both)"
any ideas on what i need to change?
or can anyone suggest an easier to use program?
thxs for any help....

If you want an easy way out, definitely use flask. I did my first 2 encodes with flaskMPEG, really easy if you glance at a guide from time to time.
I guess the next step after that would be gordian knot for either divx3.11 sbc or divx4.12. This will put out much better encodes than flask, but is a bit less intuitive. When you get used to dvd encoding enough to know what you are doing, give nandub SBC encoding using 3.11 a try. Quality is unbeatable with the right settings.

flask is the easiest method...
but to be honest i think nandub sbc encoding is pretty easy too, as long as you follow the guides here. i only been using the nandub sbc method for a week following the guides here and it was a piece of cake(thanks doom) not to mention that the quality was far superior than anything i have produced in the last year using flask. having to do 2 passes is the drawback but only a minor one, especially since you can make very near dvd quality movies on 1 cd
happy decoding

I've been using Flask and I like it a lot.

I started my first Divx rips with something called RipitAll.
Its good software, its a good starting point, but I had a problem with Audio. So I now use Flask, or at least for the time being.

Also don't use Divx 3.11, I prefer to use 4.12, which is legit and I found to be a lot better.

Let me sound off and say that I did my first few encodes with Flask. It taught me a lot about the process of encoding. I'm working on Gordian Knot now, which will be easy for you after you've spent a little more time reading guides and forums. Lately I've been able to fix slip ups manualy using Vdub and Nandub. I'm getting there. I'm sure you will too.
