Hey there people!

I did a quick search before starting this thread, but there were no satisfying results, therefore I'm opening a thread now!

I'm quite new to all of this HD stuff, therefore please explain every step as detailed as possible!

I've got a *.m2t file from a Canon HV20 camcorder which I want to author to standard DVD in order to watch it on my DVD Player!

Would be great if somebody could explain how to convert this *.m2t file to standard DVD format!

You can index it with DGIndex, create an .avs file to feed into an MPEG2 encoder, such as HCenc, to generate an elementary video stream. HV20 records .mp2 audio if I recall correctly, so you can use this directly or convert to AC3 (with something like besweet or belight ). AC3 is more compatible with more standalone players (although most play both). You can author from these elementary streams into a DVD with an authoring tool like GUIForDVDAuthor, DVDAuthorGUI, DVDStyler, a few others (all these programs are free)

To automate the process and make things simpler, you could use FAVC (free) or convertxtodvd ($), but you have less control over intermediate steps. Both generate simple menus

To add to what poisondeathray said, there are several threads in the AVIsynth sub-forum which discuss possible conversion scripts.

All this assume you don't want to do any editing. If you don't edit, then unless you're a great cameraman/woman who also "edits in camera" (i.e. you only shoot exactly what you need!), you're going to make very boring DVDs!

Cheers,
David.

be careful if you have used the 24p mode, then you should remove the pulldown before burning to DVD!

if you have recorded the video in NTSC 60i or if you cam is PAL forget this post!
