View Full Version : Dropping the audio bitrate for credits (@DSPGuru)

Just had a thought...perhaps it has been asked before but why not bring it up again.

Can it be done to drop the bitrate to some constant near the end of a stream? By a percentage to completion perhaps?

ie. If the track is 120 Minutes and there are 6 minutes of credits then at 95% completion drop the bitrate to 64 or something like that. This way we don't have to worry about joining mp3 files (impossible I think with different bitrates.)

But imagine that...a nice --alt-preset standard stream for the movie that drops to an 80kbps stream once the credits start rolling.

Is there some limitation to LAME that makes this impossible?

hi elgan :)!
very interesting idea !!!

it might be possible to change Lame's MAX_BITRATE property at a certain position of a track (credits, for instance).

i'm very very busy these days :(.. but will surely check your idea whenever possible.

Don't think this is a good idea. Many "good" movies have some nice soundtracks/music in the end-credits, which in some cases is the only reason to "watch" it (who cares about the Best Boy anyways?).

So let's just let the video bitrate degrade and leave the audio where it is. ;)

While we're on the subject of suggestions, I'd like to throw in mine :):
optional fade in/out for those of us who like to cut out the credits and intro altogether.

again...just a suggestion, keep up the good work.
