hi there folks, a friend of mine is not going to subscribe to Sky and/or NTL, so he is asking me can he have 2 or more freeview boxes, with the idea of recording one channel with one freeview box, while watching another channel with another freeview box ?.

Easy answer i expect, if anybody knows the answer.

thanks.

Yes, a freeview box is just an input device as far the TV or recorder is concerned. How you connect it up depends on how many inputs the devices have. You can split a scart signal or combine them for one input, but then only one can be turned on or they interfere (or you can buy switches, but they are expensive for what they do). A multi-output signal booster is worthwhile if you have a couple of boxes. If you know how many inputs his TV and recording device has, then connection options could be suggested.

He may also want to look at PVRs and freesat/freesat HD.

The easiest way would be to buy a recorder (probably a dvd/hard disk recorder) with Freeview built in.

You need different boxes from different manufacturers so that the remote controls don't clash.

shakey is right - much simpler.
