I just burned an Absolutely STUNNING THe Matrix R1 and it plays PERFECT on any standalone i try!!!! I just hit readjust angle poiners and NO MORE DOUBLE TAKES and this includes a ReMpeged FINAL! It plays PERFECT and The Matrix is FULL of angle problems as i found out, in studying the vob/cell ID changing when played in DVD2AVI you can watch it switch VOBIDs in the doubletake/different angle. I tried first, before you made the angle capable IFOedit, to just rip the unused cells, but this causes pauses and MAJOR pixelation problems where the cells WERE, and my DVD player just skips the whole scene, BUT after i RE-Stripped the original VOBs with the new Beta 2, and then RE-Muxed the OLD m2v i made with the newly stripped VOBs and IFOs (I figured that no angle info was stored there)AND PERFECTORAMA!!!! 1 PERFECT copy of The Matrix R1, Pat yourself on the back!!!

Tried the same thing, but ReMpeg crashes on me when i go to Encode.
All angles have been removed!!!
Thanks Derrow!!!!
Have tried to de-angle this many times, but this time i worked!
now to problems with ReMpeg.
Any thoughts?

Thank you for your exiting report.
That makes me happy, that it worked that great for you.
Such great reports gives me the motivation to invest more energy into my project.
I'll try to keep up the good work.

@Chumboy
did you try Matrix R1 too?
How did you try to Rempeg it? With a cffl file on the ripped VOBs, or with a demuxed video stream ?
Chumboy

derrow,
sorry for lack of detail:
created ccfl file (as per instructions).
ReMpeg reads the ccfl, i enter % reduction based on bit-rate calculator, then press encode and it crashes.

@Chumboy
Strange. Then I will test it with my R2 version of Matrix. :-)

@derrow,
is R1 = region 1...then yes.

I used filejoiner, because cffl did NOT work(it processed fine until i hit Encode, wich it would then lockup). After i joined all the VOBs ReMpeg worked perfectly, and BTW @ 84% 740x480 the quality difference from original is NON-existant, this is viewing on a 65" Mitsobishi widescreen HDTV. PS one of the playes i tried was an APEX. I bought it for playing SVCDs. I can see bright things in the future of DVD-R with IFOedit!

Mnemonic,
where can i get filejoiner (demo of couse)?

Okay in Scary Movie 2 I ripped the angle 1 and then used the new IFO edit and on PowerDVD it plays fine but still when I put it in my standalone it just skips those certain angles, but in PowerDVD XP it works fine, the pointers aren't in the IFO file anymore but the actual video just gets skipped over when I try to play in my APEX 703, I have no idea what the problem is but this is frustrating the hell out of me.
Mnemonic
18th January 2002, 21:18
Make sure you use the adjust angle pointers option NOT remove, at least thats what i did to make it work, and i am also using an APEX.

@Derrow
when would i use REMOVE ANGLE POINTERS
and
when would i use ADJUST ANGLE POINTERS?
seem to be confused on this issue...i've always checked both when i rip entire dvd to hard drive and try to deal with the angles in the movie.

@Mnemonic
ok..joined vob's and now rempeg says:
transcoding started...
decoder thread started...
encoder thread started...
then just sits there...any ideas?

I definatley didn't put remove, it was just adjust, and it won't play on the Apex it still just skips the angle on the APEX for some reason, and the ifofile just has one refrence to (Angle 1) witch is where it skips out so I'm completly confused.

This is what happens with Phantom Menace too...
I have tried everything I can think of. At least when I say remove angles, my stand alone plays straight through the angles.
When I said adjust, it would just keep circling through and getting stuck playing only the angles

I just played the VOBs in PowerDVD, and it played through all the agles NoProb in Independance Day 4, FULL of angles. After it rempegs i will burn it tommorow.

You might try Win DVD if you have a copy of it. Power DVD played fine for me too, but Win DVD screwed up just like my stand alone..

OK, for some reason i didnt do something right in IFOedit after the ReMpeg, and Primo would not accept the data, so i burnt it in NERO. THe disk is unplayable in standalone. So, i IFOedited the M2V again, making sure i did EVERYTHING i did with The Matrix, and PERFECT! Burnt with primo, plays in Apex or sony, although the apex did skip ocasionally, like a split second it would go bip(like a scratch in a CD), not skip any scenes though or anything (Not just angles) I think that frankley they are shitty players, and since im using cheap DVD-Rs it worsens the thing. The sony played FLAWLESSLY!

could you be so kind as to post a step-by-step....
thanks.

#1 i only want the movie, so i get the best quality, so i use Smartripper (Files) to rip VIDEO_TS.VOB,IFO,BUP and the main movie VOBs,IFO and BUP. [put these files ina folder called {Step1}
#2 IFOEdit, Load the Main Movie IFO, hit VOB Extras, select Strip VOB ID, Strip Streams, Adjust Angle, make new IFOs. By reading the program chain in IFOedit i uncheck the VOB_IDs that the movie does not use. We will call this folder {Step2}<AFTER this step is complted you can now delete the VOBs from step 1>
#3 I quit IFOedit, reload IFOedit load the finished IFOs (FROM the folder {STEP2} There will be 2) and Get VTS Sectors, save the final products over themselves.
#4 Filemerge the finished VOBs (From the folder {step2} Make sure you put them in order)[Save this file in folder called {merged}]
#5 ReMpeg by deviding 4400 by the total MBs of movie files, this gives you the Percentage of Degration in ReMpeg, Select 740x480, same as source. (save the file as whatever.m2v in folder {m2v}
#6 Goto bed, wake up next day. If rempeg hangs on the last frame, it dosnt matter, just quit and it will be fine! (You may now delete folder {MERGED}
#7 Load IFOedit, load VTS_01_0.IFO from folder {step2}. VOB extras. DO NOT select strip anything, DO Select Remux,adjust angles, Make New IFOs, Select another dest folder called {VIDEO_TS}, and select the whatever.m2v file from the folder {m2v}. Let IFOedit do its thing.......Quit IFO edit, Restart IFOedit load the IFOs from {VIDEO_TS}, BOTH OF THEM!!!! Get VTS Sectors, save the final IFOs over themselves.
#8 Burn in primo {VIDEO_TS}, if primo dont like it repeat step 7. Dont attempt another burn program, because something is wrong.
That is exactley what i did, THe Matrix, AND Independance day!

Very detailed...thanks.
I'll give it a try.

@Mnemonic
can you edit your directions and specify when to create new files in a NEW DIRECTORY and when to create new files in the SAME DIRECTORY.
Awesome job...thanks.

@Mnemonic,
Well, i followed the exact instructions for matrix and after remuxing is finished, i get this error:
Something is Wrong!
File position does not match the offset for table: ID_VMG_PTT_SRPT
File position does not match the offset for table: ID_VMG_VTS_ATRT
IFO Endsector does not match file size!
Seems that the the vts_01_0.ifo file expects a 5.2gig file, but it's seeing a 4.2gig .m2v file...freaks out at the files size difference.
when processing, ifoedit says it's processing source: VTS_01_1.vob!
But ifoedit won't run unless this VTS_01_1.vob file is there.
The files i have in the directory are:
Matrix.m2v - 4,234,713kb
video_ts.bup - 6kb
vts_ts.ifo - 6kb
vts_01_0.bup - 86kb
vts_01_0.ifo - 86kb
vts_01_1.vob - 5,206,362kb
i removed the original vobs that were created in step 2...seemed they weren't needed since i was going to create a new vob with filemerger.
I modifyed the format of your instructions, keeping all the same steps. Here it is:
1-Smartripper (Files)
rip VIDEO_TS_*
rip main movie VTS_0x_x.* (everything for main movie)
2-IFOEdit
Read under "program chain" to see which VOB_IDs that the
movie uses. Remember these when stripping VOB_ID's.
VOB Extras
Strip VOB ID
Strip Streams
Adjust Angle
make new IFOs.
Quit IFOedit
3-Reload IFOedit
load VIDEO_TS.IFO and "Get VTS Sectors"
Let IfoEdit do it's thing on both IFO files and it will save
the final IFO's over themselves.
Now you will have a movie that is playable in PowerDVD, but is still too big for a DVD-R.
4-Filemerger
merge the finished VOBs (Make sure you put them in order)
5-ReMpeg
Import merged VOB into ReMpeg
Options
Set percent reduction to: 100 - (4400 / (total
MBs of movie VOB files)) = percentage reduction
Select 720x480
Select "Match source."
Save file as: *.m2v
Run ReMpeg
If rempeg hangs on the last frame, it dosnt matter,
just quit and it will be fine!
7-IFOedit
load the stripped IFOs.
VOB extras
Remux
dont strip anything
adjust angles
Make New IFOs
Select another dest DIR
and select the rempeged m2v file
Quit IFO edit
8-Restart IFOedit
load VIDEO_TS.IFO and "Get VTS Sectors"
Let IfoEdit do it's thing on both IFO files and it will save
the final IFO's over themselves.
9-PrimoDVD
Burn in primo, if primo dont like it repeat step 7. Dont
attempt another burn program, because something is wrong.
I've played around with rempeging the matrix for about a month and thought i had it this time.
can someone please tell me what went wrong...these steps seem so logical.
Chumboy

this is my first experience with remuxing.
the .m2v file that rempeg created has no sound...video only.
is that right?

@Mnemonic,
I followed your updated steps exactly, AND IT WORKED!!!
Unfortunately, it freezes on PowerDVD at chapter 14.
My merged VOB was 5.206gig (4400 / 5206 = 84% bitrate)
My M2v file was 1.296
Final VOB file total was 1.66gig
The movie comes out at 1.66gig and i have 4.4gig available on the dvd-rw.
Perhaps I lowered the bitrate too much and that's causing it to freeze.
Any thoughts?
Mnemonic

You dont have a full encode, 84% would be 4400 ;) rempeg didnt finish apperently.

Mnemonic,
Noticed your note (on the 19th) about an Apex skipping. I was having similar problems (occasional skipping) with my AD-660 and DVD-Rs. It also skipped when I put labels on. It went away when I upgraded the firmware on the drive (not the 660, but the internal drive itself). Instructions and info are at the URL below:
http://www.dvd-wizards.com/darrenk/dvdrom_firmware/dvdrom_firmware.htm
Note that this only upgrades the DSL-710A which is common in the 660, there are other updates that can be found on other models (the Raite is also common and can be similarly updated). Also, IT CAN BE DANGEROUS upgrading your drive's firmware -- so you have to follow the instructions carefully.
