I really am getting very frustrated at the lack of response to my previous post -

I am really finding it difficult to get some definitive answers to the following, please can the forum help -

1. Will the latest versions of Power DVD Ultra play from hard disc (I am assuming not)?

2. Will the latest versions of Power DVD Ultra play from virtual drives sourced from.iso files created by HD DVD Fab Decrypter and mounted by Daemon tools?

3. I note recent release of Nero9 with apparently HD / Blu ray playback supported on Showtime - again, playback from hard drive supported? (I am trying to download the trial - @ 4.5mbps!

Currently i'm stuck on the last release of Power DVD that played from hard disc, I am finding more and more discs and backups it just won't play so I need to make this upgrade step now!

As noone has replied, Iv'e upgraded to Nero 9 from Nero 8. Showtime DOES NOT play blu ray from folders OR from an emulated image - just comes up with some stupid message saying the folder does not contain valid files. It plays individual files OK but refuses to play from the folder which of course means movies with multiple movie files is a nightmare.

So BEFORE I try the latest Power DVD version and waste even more of my money,

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM IF IT PLAYS BLU RAY'S FROM EITHER HDD OR DEAMON TOOLS MOUNTED IMAGE???????????????:devil::devil::devil::devil:

Sorry for the frustrated tone, but there must be plenty of you out there who can answer this question???

Fume...........

I have. Previous experience from Cyberlink does not bode well so I have put that in long shot category. As for Nero - you might as well ask my cat.....

Playback from files aren't officially sanctioned as the only way you can get them to your hard disk is by ripping them "illegally".
I'm supposing Cyberlink et al got kicked in the ass by Sony due to the piracy aspect, so they removed this type of feature from their programs.

Thanks jj666 i was aware of this. My question was whether v7 later resions or v8 played emulated images OK or not.

Message to Cyberlink if you are reading - us customers on which your livelihood and existence resides are fed up with features being dicsted by bully boy lawyers of large corporations. There are plenty of reasons why playing back from hard drive is legitimate - we are not all pirates. I for one refuse to watch any DVD, blu ray etc and be forced to endure endless marketing and copyright warnings. Get a grip and a spine:p

The best place to look is avsforums for more information, I believe there was a dedicated thread there. Sorry, just use these program for playing back Bluray disks, or remux files for playback in MPC-HT here, so not much personal experience :-(

Cheers,

I've noticed that in Nero 8, Recode and Vision have recently stopped allowing you to import unencrypted m2ts files.

Looks like I'll need to revert to an older revision and turn off updates. I definitely won't want to move to Nero 9.

PowerDVD 8 doesn't play bluray from folders on hard drive. It does support playing from mounted iso's but I came across some bluray muxed with tsmuxer it gave unsupported disc errorr.
Arsoft TotalMedia Theater and WinDVD 9 support playback from folders and mounted iso's both work just fine. They both have free trials so you can try before buy if you are interested.

You can be absolute sure about that they removed it on behalf of DRM the same way they had to remove the Screenshot function (the same reason Nvidia had to remove full screen mirroring), and i doubt any ISV is gonna implement features that make it possible to playback BD locally or threaten the Security of the BD Consumer/Commercial Layer integrity in any other way in the future anymore (only the Consumer part of BD (AVCHD,HDVM,AVCREC) ) they surely don't risk to get their BD license canceled by Sony :)
Products that don't guarantee this for sure will get more presure in the Future, so don't expect Nero to risk their License be terminated. Arcsoft and Corel are currently playing with their BD license i guess you wont even be able in next versions of all these to playback from ISO's either anymore. Such "Security improvements" most probably won't appearing in Changelogs often, these stuff will be done more ore less in secrecy and could come with any update/autoupdate.

Thanks for the tips guys. I have given Corel's Power DVD9 a go and its telling me my display is non HDCP compliant despite the fact its a Pioneer PDP 435XDE which it most definitely is! BD advisor's from both Cyberlink and Corel tell me the same story.

All I can think is its my DVI to HDMI cable causing the problems. On XP I seem to remember the advisor tools saying much the same thing but everything seemed to work fine. Now on Vista x64 and the newer (and presumably fussier) soft players, this is why its not working. I thought all DVI to HDMI cables were HDCP compliant?

Anyone seen the same behavior or have any suggestions?

Well, both, your graphics card and your screen, need to be HDCP compliant. The cable shouldn't be the problem...

The card is a certified HDCP compliant card which the Cyberlink AND Corel HD ready tools agree with. My Pioneer is also HDCP certified by Pioneer. The only other thing it can be is the lead.....or the way its connected.

I was reading on some forums about DVI to HDMI leads causing problems. Also, the various DVI formats confuse the hell out of me. My card specs state that each of the 2 DVI ports are Dual-Link compatible. Looking at my DVI plug it looks like a single link type (horizontal bar in the middle). Is this the problem? I'm very tempted to switch out the card for one with an HDMI to eliminate this as the problem.

This HDCP thing is a pain the butt!!!!!!!!! Arrrrrrgggggghhhh!:devil::devil:
