I use a similar machine for my videos and SD is OK if you keep it simple (filtering and so, using MPC and ffdshow), but you can't do much more.

right now i can play almost perfectly 720p in mpeg-2 and xvid, 1080i is a little bit choppy, but I have 384 mb ram... so maybe when i get 1gb i'll be able to play them perfectly
HDTV clips in h264 right now are running at 20 fps, like in slo-mo, so I think it'll be better with 1gb of ram.
BTW I know my pc is old, it's just that a new one is so expensive and out of reach for me right now.
PD: The proccessor is Pentium Celeron (dont laugh at it)

It's all about the CPU, 1.8Ghz is meaningless. RAM's not that important and the gfx card can display a 1080 sized output, but it cannot decode.
Something like a core 2 at that speed will eat up 720 and some 1080 depending on the video, broadcast standard HDTV just about, but anything with really high bitrates or higher level compression settings will be too much.
Something like an old celeron or sempron, then it's not going to cut it, maybe some 720, depending on the bitrate and complexity of the compression.

thanks for your useful comment, appreciate it.
Anyway, I dont care, I guess someday Im gonna have a 2/4/8 Core and will by able to play 7 1080p videos at the same time lol...
But right now I just need something to play 720p in h264

Try CoreAVC then and take a look at this if you want to set up the TV-out for a GeForce 6200 (full-screen mirror): http://www.jillesvangurp.com/2006/11/06/nvidia-tv-out-aspect-ratio-trouble-workaround/#comment-19816

I have a 2.8 GHz single core, 512mb ram, and a 96mb crappy intel stock card. I can play HD h.264 videos fine.
You should be able to also, if your processor won't have it lag a bit.
