Having read the guide to using AVI files in GK, I have one question, and a few comments regarding my own experiences.
Lots of good information in the other thread, but when using PAL DV material as source in GK, I assume the pixel aspect ratio should be set to 1.067, or am I wrong about that?
When it comes to using AVI files in GK, I have used a method similar to the one described earlier. Oddly enough though, I get better end results if I encode my DV AVI's to MPEGII first, and open the MPEG II files in GK using DVD2AVI. In CCE, I've used 1-pass variable bitrate and the lowest possible Q setting.
I could be doing something wrong, but I have tried with every possible filter settings using the DV AVI file to encode to DivX directly, but the DivX movies always get better when encoding to MPEG II first. While I would prefer skipipng this step, it isn't too bad though. With a low Q setting, the encoding speed is close to real time on my Athlon 1600XP. It also saves time when it comes to cropping and adjusting the resolution and bitrate, since I can do it directly in GK.
