hey, I'm having slow playback with 1080P h264 footage, it seems it lags alot then when it starts playing fine the audio is lagged behind. and also when trying to edit 1080P footage in video editing programs it's reallllly laggy, so I'm looking to upgrade my CPU, currently I have a Althon FX x2 4600+, I'm limited to CPUs with AM2 socket, and I was wondering what part of the CPU is making the video lag, is it the Core Clock, or is it the total Cache? (because I could overclock the core clock, but the cache stays the same)
Anyway, what would you recommend me upgrading to? My price range is kinda around 100-150$=\
Are there any good quad cores out from amd around that price, or maybe a good new dual core will suffice.
err my specs:
8800gt,
amd 4600+
2gb ram
windows xp

Wrong forum, if a mod could ideally move it to PC Hardware and Software that'd be appreciated. Please don't re-post it there, per rule 9. :)
What playback software are you using? libavcodec doesn't currently have common multi-threading, so your only choice in that respect is CoreAVC. PowerDVD has support for the accelerated playback features of the 8800GT. For 1080p editing, I'd highly recommend DGAVCDecodeNV from neuron2, as chained through AviSynth, it likely has what you're after (speedier editing). IIRC an AMD 6000+ or better is probably capable, along with CoreAVC, of playing back 1080p H.264 smoothly.

Ah, sorry about the wrong forum.
Right now I use CCCP and MPC player (err, ffdshow) I'll try out coreAVC.
Oh about the 1080P editing, I make lossless lagerith .avi files to edit with, I use Sony Vegas so i don't know if I could use AviSynth scripts to edit with.
