View Full Version : DGPulldown doing strange conversion

I have an .mpv file of a CCE I've done that is @ 25fps, length of movie is 2hrs47mins40secs...after using DGPulldown to get 25-->29.970, I get a resulting m2v file that lasts only 2hrs20mins...why did this happen?

Whatever you are using to get the length of the pulled-down movie is wrong.

I ripped to lag file; output was @ 25. I encoded that via CCE, and settings were set to 25. Resulting mpv file was @ 25fps. DGDecode 3 times in a row, spit out a file @ 29.970, but length of film 2hrs20min from the original 2hrs47...after muxing in dvd authoring, movie is @ 2hrs47mins...but why is the m2v file @ 2hrs 20mins? And .vobs are playing fine in beginning, but towards the end, the movie plays so staticly...it's crazy.
What I will do is put my script directly into CCE and go from there and re-encode :(

indeed most tools misreport duration for elementary mpeg2 streams

what ever for?
it's likely there are other causes to the problem, encoding/authoring,
but the lag encode is certainly innocent.

it's okay boss; i have time to kill...i got the aspect ratio wrong anyway...DVD9 had it wrong...i'm doing this for personal satisfaction, plus already deleted the 56GB lag :)
i loaded the mpv file in VDM...it said 2hrs47; the m2v file in VDM said 2hrs20...so i'm putting the blame SOMEHOW on DGPulldown, because what else could be the problem? and also why does the movie stutter as if it's @ the wrong framerate in 2nd half...
will report back after next run of CCE...wish me luck

yeah...
:)

if there was reason enough to create it the first time,
there's reason enough to do it again.

Load the MPV into DGIndex. Set Field Operation to Honor Pulldown Flags. Save Project.
Now do the same for the M2V file.
Attach both of the resulting D2V files to your next post. That will allow me to see what is going on.

^ crap; already deleted those as well...sorry man; but if the same problem happens again...will post as you wish neuron master! :) thanks for replies here everyone. will post my script as well IF needed.

You deleted the MPV and M2V files that you are posting for help about?
If so, that's not funny and thank you for wasting my time.

Sir Master, I had NO idea at the time that you would have needed the d2v files from the mpv & m2v...I had posted a few posts above, that I would re-start the CCE...because of that I deleted my old files, after being very frustrated with what was happening. I would never intentionally waste YOUR time. I respect you for everything you've done...please forgive me. :(

It wouldn't bother me except that you make posts placing blame on my software, and then give me no opportunity to find out what is really going on.

^ I had NO idea it was YOUR software sir :( I just use it to do my pull-downs; I just now did a pulldown from 23.976 to 29.970 and it went perfectly; different source though. will rip again this weekend and let u know

the honourable Neuron master sir,
i began my CCE yesterday...script was fine in VDM preview...2pass VBR; output was bad...for some reason it added 96 black pixels on bottom making it 704x576. Ran it again...it is fine now.
After muxing audio is un-synched; terrible un-smoothness of playback as mentioned in op...
Here are the d2v files as requested...
MPV: http://www.sendspace.com/file/2khf0q
M2V: http://www.sendspace.com/file/dyhos6
I am not deleting any information today...until my situation is resolved...thanks in advance.

I don't know what you are reporting now. Is it the same issue that the length is claimed to be wrong after you apply pulldown? Or are you reporting something else now? Your post has that "kitchen sink" quality.
Also, please just attach the D2Vs as I cannot get upload sites during the day.

here you go

If you do Parse D2V, they both show a running time of 2:47.50.
Remember that VirtualDubMod ignores pulldown, so it will show a running time of:
25/29.97 * 2:47.50 = 2:20.0
...as reported in your first post.
So everything is OK and it is a problem with the tool you use to get the running time, as I said in my first post.
If you use VirtualDub with the MPEG2 plugin configured to honor pulldown flags, you'll get the correct running time.

^ Ahhhhhh, that explains the timing.
But then now I have to wonder WHY I have playback that is NOT smooth at all in the latter stages of the movie...I don't understand why even the audio is so far off...
neuron2
6th October 2008, 21:03
First, the sync. Is it a constant offset or a progressively growing desync?
Now, the smoothness. How did you mux the streams, to what format, and how are you playing the resulting stream?

I'm using ReJig to enter my m2v file, with the audio (on the original DVD9 i noticed a very slight delay throughout which was consistent...i am using -22ms, which isn't perfect yet) & a .sup file, chapters.txt file...this gives me a resulting DVD file system (.vobs, etc)...NTSC.
I just played it again, to check the audio...in the beginning of the movie, it's almost in synch...but then gets progressively worse & worse...
Orig DVD9 had a 5interlaced frames to 1progressive; so I used yadif/MRestore to get it back to 25fps and progressive output...just FYI...perhaps I think my settings for that might be wrong? Still doesn't explain why the audio is so unsynched :(
PS - playing in VLC

Too much extraneous business going on for me to support you. I just don't have the time to debug your complicated process. I don't think DGPulldown is the source of your difficulties, as many people are using it without problems.

^ I appreciate all your help & input. Thank you and I understand.
You can delete this thread; as I will make a thread in appropriate forum for my problem seeing as it is NOT a DGP problem.

Neuron sir,
I think I found my problem...I think.
My script is this:
setmemorymax...blah blah
dgdecode...etc etc, cpu=2, info=3
load all my plugins...etc etc
yadif(mode=1).mrestore()
crop....
fft3dfilter...
dull=last
sharp=LSF(strength=30)
tweak(sat=1.05,cont=.96,hue=-4)
spline36resize(720,320)
------------------------------
the parametres are not the important thing here...
but do you think that the missing "soothe(sharp,dull,25)" line plays ANY part in the output of the file?

but do you think that the missing "soothe(sharp,dull,25)" line plays ANY part in the output of the file? Why do you say it is missing? Is this some standard script where it is supposed to be present or something?
I don't know what Soothe() is in any case.
