press the user cp button (below the 2 lines introduction at the top of each forum page), edit options -> avatar -> change (at the bottom of the page)

it must be below 20k bytes (20'000 bytes), the max size is 70x70 pixels... AND... you must have posted at least 10 times before you can have your own avatar. You also must have been a member here for at least 10 days. Now don't go spamming the board to reach your 10 posts or I will prune them away (test forum gets pruned regularly and in other forums spam will simply be deleted upon detection).

I meet all of the requirements, and it still doesn't work. Here's my image in the attachment:

I had this problem earlier. I had a nice small gif, 8 colors. wouldn't work. 650 something bytes.

made a new gif, 128 colors, 889 bytes, worked like a charm.

I thought thish might be the problem too.
I converted my 24-bit image to 256 for gif.

In the following picture, I used the last of the four color spectrums shown for my current avatar. The first is System 666, the second is system 676, and the third is is the color pallet that microsoft paint when I converted to GIF. Does anyone know which I should use?

I guess every time an avatar is being shown it counts as a download.

and I don't know about your sexual orientation but I'm definitely hetero.

Even so, it is a little suprizing that 256 color.gif was downloaded 51 times.
