Hello,

i have a bunch of avi files totalling 12gb. I want to convert them to x.264, so that total size of them would be 7.5Gb.

How can I do that..?

thanks.

Or at the very least, if I could find a decent "anything to x.264" transcoder, which would be smart enough to be able to match desired output size for each file, I'd convert them one by one manually..

Try RipBot264 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127611&highlight=ripbot264).

More options: Avidemux (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=126164) (check out the "Calculator") or MeGUI (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=96032).

(BTW: It's "x264", not "x.264". And you don't "encode to x264", but you use the x264 software to encode to the H.264 format)

thank you for clarification! i'll be more careful when using these terms later.

am i correct to assume, that i'll have to do all the bitrate calculations myself? thats a bit tedious, since there are 20 files, all with different res, fps, codecs, and all i want, is 20 resulting files, with same codec, resolution, and filling desired space as fully as possible, as to save most info in them when reencoding..
